Teams are just that. A team. It is made up of fellow team members who come to trust and count on one another. All of us, at one time or another, have been involved with a team - be it HS football, debate team, coworkers, etc. Your team becomes your family and if you're a normal and healthy person, you want to see everyone on your team be successful. So here's the question: What do you think Riley's treatment of Katz did to the "team", mainly, upper-classmen? Katz is a JR, 3V, and was the clear leader going into this season. He provided some great times last season and was a clear leader... Do you think player attitude towards their coach is one of trust and respect? Do you think upper-classmen trust Riley? Do you think Riley has shown sound leadership characteristics and skills? Are you glad Riley is guaranteed through 2019 at OSU? If you're a recruit and see the way Riley benches his vets and allows underclassmen like Mannion to play, when they aren't producing, would it deter you from playing for OSU? --just in reflection, we saw a total meltdown of one DAT at LSU. Kelley stuck with his FR, got him a TD and gave him major playing time the following week. it just seems like good coaches can be counted on to develop and challenge their players, not play head games and bench them for underclassmen who aren't producing either--
It's a good question. I think the back & forth thing was not good and probably many people the wrong way. That said, I think Riley not only found his best QB, but can now groom him for next season. So all will be forgiven and forgotten by then. This is now a year to prepare for next year.
