so Today the wife was on the compy and the screen went all blue and restarted the PC. Ran some Malwarebytes and all that good stuff and it turns out its a "backdoor.0access" virus... (surprisingly its not a porn virus lol) anywhoo it wont let me run malwarebytes or any antivirus unless its in safe mode. At first Malware and Tdsskiller read the virus and gave me the option to reboot and delete. Did that and still having problems. And now they dont find the virus anymore. Tried running combofix but now it tells me "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." It actually says that when I click on my icon for malwarebytes unless I reinstall with the exe file in safe mode. Unfortunately my combofix.exe is locked up because I only had one icon of it, and search engines are redirected to keep me from downloading it again. Any ideas? Normally I can get rid of a virus, but this one has me by the balls!

Thanks in advance for any ideas lol

Holy Jeebus! That actually IMMENSELY helped as the forum had a direct link to combofix to download it, so the virus couldnt keep me from getting to the link! Thank you much Mr Whittsit! That virus was a doozy! Repped! +1, and all that good stuff!

Just for future reference I always keep a bootable AV disk (Kaspersky) around so can at lest get into an environment that will let me scan and fix stuff outside of windows, there are also some bootable DVD linux isos that will let you do the same.

hmmmm never actually read into that. I'll have to look into it thanks! I did however download and make copies of the exe installation files of all these anti virus programs to reinstall in safe mode in case I have a virus that locks up those anti malware programs again.

How difficult is the bootable disk thing?

I could be wrong but your post just seems a little suspicious.

Just curious but what brought you to this forum?

It's pretty damn easy. All you have to do is make sure that your PC is setup to boot from CD/DVD (change the boot priority in BIOS by hitting "Delete" or F2 when you first power your PC up).

Check out this link/article for more information: http://www.techmixer.com/free-bootable-antivirus-rescue-cds-download-list/

Personally I use the Kaspersky AV disc and you can create it from the AV software vs. downloading the necessary .iso file from an off-site website and I've only every used it once on a friends computer but it worked pretty well.

Just got back from Best Buy. The Geek Squad says it's not cost effective to fix my computer.

I ran the long version of the Chkdsk command all night and each time (many hours each) it found new sectors and clusters and orphans to reconnect. It freezes every time and won't finish Chkdsk.

I found that link for you in a rare moment of coherence for this computer. This computer is in another moment of sanity right now, because I got rid of a bunch of opening processes in msconfig which sped it up.

So it's the blind helping the blind!

Long story short, (unless your puter is super old) hard drives with hundreds of of gigabytes of memory can be had for around 50 bucks.

$50 is what he said too, for the hard drive, but he also wanted more to reinstall Windows. I passed. I'll just buy a sexy new computer and lose the old one.

What a Melville is lost to the world. Ahh, Queequeg, such words as I have keystroked will escape over the rusty horizon of my memories.
