    This is shocking.

SpikeTV plans to run a special to counter-program the debut of the UFC on FOX in November, when the UFC has a title fight between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos.

The title of the special on SpikeTV? "Dos Santos vs. Velasquez: Unleashed for the Heavyweight Title", a three-hour special featuring back-catalog fights from both fighters.

    9:00pm
    Jon Jones vs. Ryan Bader
Junior Dos Santos vs. Shane Carwin
    Cain Velasquez vs. Brock Lesnar

    10:00pm
Junior Dos Santos vs. Mirko “Cro Cop”
    Tyson Griffin vs. Hermes Franca
    Thiago Silva vs. Keith Jardine

    11:00pm
    Cain Velasquez vs. Minotauro Nogueira
    Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg
    Pat Barry vs Antoni Hardonk
    Mark Munoz vs Kendall Grove

You might be thinking, hey, isn't calling the show "Velasquez vs. Dos Santos... for the heavyweight title" a bit misleading when there happens to be a Velasquez vs. Dos Santos title fight live on another channel?

Well, duh. This is Spike's final middle finger to the UFC, a channel that has provided them with some of its best content ever over the past several years but had a bad break-up in 2011.

Additionally, Spike will air the Bellator welterweight finals starting at 7et.

Now, I'm guessing the UFC will respond by inundating the audience with reminders that the real live show is on FOX, not Spike, but Spike can promote their special on The Ultimate Fighter.

Confusion is impossible to avoid and exactly what Spike is going for. Bitch move or justified?

I bet the UFC can legally get Spike to change the name of the show, no?

I don't think Spike wants to go to war with the UFC over the next year or so because Dana White isn't afraid to put an organization out of business...that organization could be Bellator. I expect HEAVY counter programming for Bellator events now.

I dunno, counter programming works when the thing you're countering is difficult to access but this is Fox we're talking about, everyone has Fox.

And everyone watches fox. There is no way in hell someone is going to mess up the DVR and record Spike tv's crap. And DFW is going to get pissed, and take over another MMA organization.

Its designed to fool the most casual of casual viewers. The people that see PPV replays on Spike months after the fact and think they are seeing a new, live show. They are out there, believe me.

Worst case scenario those people see a few hours of good fights (Spike has put together a nice lineup). Not so bad. They will sound silly in the coffee room the next day talking about those old-ass fights, though.

The UFC isn't in this alone. FOX is going to push this hard. No doubt they will be looking for 10MM viewers. It's possible.

    Dana White ain't curr.

He hopes lots of people watch the Spike special and doesn't see how it could hurt the UFC.
