With realignment talks all over the internet I decided to take a stab at what I think would be a good fit for the league. This is a two part post, first I will start with the Western Conference. Two divisions, one division with 8 teams, one divisions with 7 teams.

The Pacific Division came pretty easy. First teams in this division would be the teams from Western Canada. Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton. Geographically the best choice to put these three teams together. Then we have the teams from California, San Jose, Anaheim and Los Angeles. Phoienx is close to the teams from California so adding the Coyotes into the mix would make sense. That gives us a 7 team division. I then decided to add Colorado to the mix, it seems like a western team, Dallas fits in the midwest better.

Then we have the Central Division. This division was a bit more difficult to create, with Detroit, Columbus and Nashville wanting to join the Eastern conference. I decided sending both Columbus and Nashville to the East would be a better fit. Columbus seemed to be a better choice than Detroit, and honestly I don't want to see Detroit leave the conference. With those two teams moving East what teams come west? Well obviously Winnipeg and then I decided Toronto would be a great fit. Winnipeg, Minnesota, and Chicago are geographically close, keeping Detroit and St. Louis in the Central Division and adding in Dallas seemed to work. Toronto is also pretty close to detroit, and splitting the Original Six teams to both conferences made sense.

I would rather have 3 divisions of 5 teams. I think the BJ's in the Norris is a better fit then the Leafs. I know its sucks to say that, but Toronto is a little farther east then Columbus.

What I would do is change the schedule. 6 games against Division teams is a lot. I would do what the NBA does, everyone in the Division 4 times, split the other teams 4/3 games and then the other conference 2 times.
