Did you read the interview where Mark Cuban said that you joining the Mavs was a good move? Rudy Fernandez: I saw that one, but owners and coaches are not always on the same page. I remember Blazers owner Paul Allen liked my game very much, but at the end it was Nate McMillan who decided if I could play or not. I don't care what is said about me, even if it's good things, if at the end I don't play. If you start playing with Real Madrid and things go well and then you have to leave for Dallas, wouldn't it bother you? Rudy Fernandez: Of course. I'm playing with a team and I would love to stay here, but I have to live the Dallas experience because all of what they have done with the trade and because I would like to live another NBA experience apart from the Blazers' one. http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm#gS3-r1D5E
He could find his niche in Dallas like Channing did in Phoenix. Like Frye said, Nate only knows how to coach 'his' type of players.
Rudy was a very promising player after his rookie season. Something happened to change that. I don't know if it was his fall against the Lakers or Nate or what... but something changed. He went from being a very productive player to a big shit sammitch.
Frye didn't even make the playoffs this year after signing his 5/$30m deal, and Rudy did little to help his own team make the playoffs.
Rudy did not seem to be bitching to me. He basically was saying that it makes no difference what Cuban said, the coach will determine his minutes. Also I doubt Frye said "Nate can only coach his type of players". Probably closer to Nate prefers a different type of PF" Kind of like what 90% of this forum said when Frye played for Portland. Pussie/soft seemed to be frequent terms used.
Shocking that Rudy didn't like to stand in the corner and jack 3's after Roy ran the shot clock down in Nate's advanced offense.
Of course McMillan is TOTALLY UNIQUE in preferring some players over others. NO OTHER COACH IN HISTORY has ever done this. It'll be funny if Rubio actually really thrives playing for Adelman, because he certainly wasn't having much fun playing for Barcelona.
Rudy didn't seem to be bitching to me either. He's just stating what happened in Portland which is that he didn't get playing time because he didn't fit the role. Thus, when questioned about Dallas, he doesn't "care" what happens, so long as he gets playing time. And like many, I think do well in a system like Dallas.
Rudy's most recent game:
Looks like he's lost a step. Even the short white dudes were getting close to his 3-point shot. That other team looks horrible.
That was funny. Remember everyone, Papa doesn't use green font. Rudy, in that clip, makes McMillan look like the worst coach in the world.
Some players need to ball hog in order to develop. I can see why he was frustrated as a role player. Not everyone has a team-first mentality, and that can be a good thing.
