I just saw on my elevator that 400 thousand illegal immigrants were deported last year and 55% of them were convicted criminals. Discuss.

This is a perfect example of the propaganda being stuffed down your collective gullett. Every time they point to the top half of one percent..the UCLA qualified geniuos...the tear jerking story of a loving father. What a bunch of Bull, report on the rest of them. Lets hear about the guys that establish gangs in every city they can. commit a large percentage of the crimes in an area, siphon of our monitary resorces and scoff at our laws.

Grrr, Just a part of what is wrong in this country right now. Its no wonder we have dummies occuping towns ranting about big business, that do not realize that business has zero power without the political maching being greased. Fuck it hang the lobbiests, scare congress and the house, they are the crooks. But no...they want a bank to forgive their loans..

And we sit back and watch the president campain for his next term while he should be focused on his job..

its like that movie "A day without a mexican", where they all disappeared and the society collapsed. Well there was a day a few years ago here in LA where they all went on "strike" for a day for immigrants rights. The end result: a lot less traffic on the freeway.

About 1/2 of those 400K were convicted of some crime. About half of those convicted, the crimes were drug possession or DUI.

~6,000 were rape or murder (serious crimes).

It's not at all clear those crimes were committed in one year.

Good point. Since being here illegally doesn't seem to be illegal anymore, evidence might have to be fabricated to send the criminals back across the border.

So 45% did not commit a crime.

I wonder how much it cost the American system to deport that 45% and how many of them are back in the country as we type?

$150 a day comes out to ~$15-20 per hour (depending on the

What is the difficulty in setting up an Ellis Island for the 21st century?
    Agent: "Identification, please"
Migrant Worker X: "I'd like to register for your migrant worker card"
Agent: "What is your name, where are you from, give me some ID and fingerprints."
Migrant worker X: "My name is X, I am from Cityville, I don't have documents, here are my fingers."
Agent: "What is your business in America?"
Worker: "There are apple picking jobs in Wenatchee. I'm going there for the season."

Agent: "Here's your migrant worker card printed in both English and the language of your choice. Don't lose this. If you get stopped, give this to the officer/agent/etc. so he can see that you're legit. If you don't have it on you, you could potentially be deported immediately. We don't want that to happen. When you start work, register with your employer/shop boss and make sure that they have your information, so that if you need a replacement card or something we can help you out. This is good for 3 years...after that you have to come back here for an update."
    Worker: "Thank you, sir/ma'am."

Wrong. Every single one of them committed the crime of being in the United States illegally (without proper documentation or permission). 45% of them did not commit a further crime that warranted being convicted by the local/state/federal government.

100% committed a crime by being here in the first place.

55% of them were convicted of a more serious crime

If "being here in the first place" is a crime, then you're guilty.

MM . . . you have no idea if they were convicted of a more serious crime. (You just add that in for sizzle.)
