California men's basketball coach Mike Montgomery is being discharged from the hospital after undergoing surgery Wednesday that will keep him away from the team for a short recovery period. Cal said the procedure went as doctors expected and that Montgomery was surrounded by family, in good spirits and had his usual sense of humor following the operation. The school provided no further details about the coach's condition and asked for privacy on the matter. Assistant coaches Travis DeCuire and Jay John are running the team until Montgomery returns.
