I've been making up for it with basketball video games, but I'm starting to care less and less about the nba because of my perception that basketball players are overpaid as it is. Unless you are a Kobe Bryant, Jason Kidd (in his prime), or Allen Iverson (in his prime) or other face of the nba, you should not be getting paid above the max. If for example, Corey Maggette, averages Kobe Bryant free throw makes and attempts, gets 25 ppg does it warrant him getting paid 12 million a year? Absolutely not. A basketball player should be paid for the amount of money they directly bring in to the nba and the results they bring to a winning organization. The guys who should be getting money are the guys who attract nba fans and ticket sales and win ball games because they make everyone around them better. I don't like it when basketball players who are not responsible for the popularity of the sport want a cut of that money they don't deserve compared to the Yao Mings or Lebron James or Tracy McGrady's or other popular players that attract attention to the sport. BTW I believe Yao Ming is slightly overrated, but you can't argue the attention he brought to the nba. His being there made the sport more popular on the international level, just like Dirk Nowitzki or Peja or Sabonis. I mean face it, the nba is a game that very few people relate to as it is. First off, it is mostly tall athletic freaks, which none of us most likely are. I believe there is a disconnect with fans. For a lot of these college drop-outs what would they do with their lives if it wasn't for us fans supporting their asses through ticket sales and merchandise. It's like they abandoned us because they want more money than they actually need to live out their entire lives. These guys are greedy IMO, unless they are the driving force behind the nba's success.
I'm going through withdrawal, but then again I don't know how much time I could dedicate to the season being so busy and all. Btw, I'm in the Bay Area. What's there to do out here?
