In case you haven't been paying attention, the NBA lockout will more than likely end today sometime. When that happens, the flood gates will be opened wide for Free Agency. While we are all aware you want us to think the people in place now are more than capable of handling this land rush of a FA period, you actively searching for a new GM shows that in reality, you aren't even comfortable with the people in place now. So please take this note as a reminder that you MIGHT WANT TO HIRE A FUCKING GM BEFORE 2013 Love, MM
Dear MM, Thank you for your note. In these austere fiscal times, we no longer have the capacity to pay highly-qualified and accomplished basketball minds to be yes-men to our owner, President and coterie of already-funded Vulcan sycophants. While it may seem unorthodox, I assure you that a lack of General Manager will not have any noticable effect on how dysfunctional our free agent signing period or trade talks will proceed. Live long and prosper, Seahawks', Sounders' and Blazers' Management
Dear MM, We will get right on hiring a GM right after all of the people bitching start putting a space between Trail and Blazers. Warm regards, The group that will be pulling the GM puppet strings
Dear MM, If you jinx this and the lockout rolls on I will hunt you and your family down and go all mid-evil on 'em! Sincerely- The H to the C to the muthafucking P
Ya, I have faulty space bar. I am actually one of the people who realize there is a space between the two
I am not originally from Portland and this was one of the things I used to do that got the snobbish eye roll from locals. I now embrace getting that reaction. Agree with you that we should probably get a GM soon, but think it will be a committee with Paul and Larry having the most imput with Chad also having a big influence. Not a shock that they have not found someone with experience that would want to accept that role.
I agree it was ridiculous to wait the whole summer to hire a new GM. But at this point it makes no difference in terms of the beginning of the season. The coaches and scouts they already have know the team better than anyone they bring in new. Any new guy (other than a Geoff Petrie type) would need time to evaluate the players in terms of trades. As for free agency.... how hard can it be to decide who to go after? (if we actually have any money to offer) A: Carl Landry B: Carl Landry C: Jamal Crawford
There is more on the menu than simply trying to get a couple of free agents and postponing the hiring of a GM isn't going to get the new guy any more up to speed what needs to be done. Then again maybe you're right that it makes no difference, because the new guy is probably expected to be little more than a bobble-headed "yes" man.
We got Wes with an interim GM, didn't we? This year, that interim GM knows he is not going to be chosen for the job
Nope. I'm still holding firm that it won't get ironed out until the players finally cry uncle in December.
