Rondo saying that players are giving up 50% of "their" revenues really underscores how stupid some of these players really are. They bear none of the operating costs of running a team and while certainly fans come to the games to see the players play almost everyone I know mostly roots for the laundry and not the guy wearing it; he wrongly assumes that any individual player is irreplaceable, but in fact all players are replaceable ... and are indeed replaced.
It's time for Fisher to tell the players the honest truth, that this is the best deal they can hope for. Hunter is too egotistical and I don't think he has it in him to admit that he can't deliver on what was promised. By reading between the lines, I think Fisher has a more realistic grasp. Hopefully, when all the reps are behind closed doors, Fisher speaks up.
Yep. Being realistic seems to be a trait of players like Fisher, Martin, and Blake. Guys who lack the natural talent to be paid millions, but have made it up through hard work and being smart in a boneheaded league.

The team size is so small in basketball that when you divide team payroll by number of players, of course the average salary will be higher than football, baseball, etc. So what.

I think the whole "hard liner" angle as seen on Broussard's twitter seems like a well orchestrated ploy by the owners. Leak that some of the owners are pissed that Stern has offered 50/50 and that they are hoping the players turn it down............sorry not buying it. I am not saying that the owners bottom line is fake, just that the way they are leaking it to the press seems kind of funny to me. But hey, whatever it takes to get the message across.

Yeah that was my point. you can bet that Stern and the owners got together and thought of a way to get the players to think that 50/50 is actually a compromise! So they brought in the small market owners to act pissed that it was even being considered so the players would feel good about the deal. The problem is some of the players are not buying into it. Yet....... But I doubt Stern and the owners are not on the same page about the BRI
I agree that the League orchestrates most leaks. Every time I read that the the players had better accept the owners' offer or the owners will decrease their 50% offer, I think, how come it never says that the owners had better accept the players' offer or the players will go back to 57%. The wording is always from the owners' point of view, trying to bully the players into making even more concessions than they already have. The anonymous sources are always from the League. The revolts are always supposedly among the players, not among the owners. Some posters harangue that the owners are more moral because they have expenses to cover and the players don't. Then the posters gloat that the players have expenses to pay and the owners don't, so the owners are in a controlling position. It's one-sided. In many sentences I read, if I reverse the words "owners" and "players," the sentences make equal sense.

The deal, which the union sees as an "ultimatum" offer, calls for players to receive anywhere between 49 and 51 percent of basketball-related income, but the group of displeased owners, the sources said, are hoping the players reject it. The owners are aware that the union's executive committee is opposed to the league's latest proposal, but they fear that the 30 player representatives set to meet in New York on Tuesday will push for approval of the deal. Stern was not on the call, but the sources said up to 11 owners took part, including Charlotte's Michael Jordan, Portland's Paul Allen and Milwaukee's Herb Kohl. "There are at least 15 owners who are praying that the players say no,'' one source said. "Because then they'll get the deal they want.'' The deal the hard-liners want is the one Stern said would replace the league's current offer if the players don't accept it by Wednesday at 5 p.m. The alternative offer features a 47 percent revenue split for the players, a flex cap, and rollbacks on current contracts. One source said if the players accept the 50/50 offer, it will not be easy for Stern to get it approved by his owners.
