ok, never mind on deal coming soon. The players are going to "sacrifice" to only get 50/50, while asking the owners to basically let them do what they want within the league

Players won't take ultimatum proposal to a vote but hope to continue negotiations with hopes of gaining system concessions and doing deal.

Yes, as it should. Risk/Reward. The owners put up all the risk, they should get all the reward. Yet they are splitting it with the players. The players are trying to ruin the league by only wanting to create super teams in the few big market, warm climate locations. Teams like Milwaukee, Cleveland, Detroit, maybe even Portland and OKC would have a lot of trouble ever fielding competitive teams without extremely rich owners, if the players get their way

Even if NBPA is ready to take the NBA's offer, they would never say so right now. Negotiate for 1 more day, ideally get more concessions.

I am back on the owners side. The press conference irrated me. The players want what is best for the players. The owners want what is best for the owners AND the league as a whole because they know that without the stability of the smaller markets, the league would suffer. The players are only focused on themselves and future players, but not the future of the smaller frachises. "Sell it if you can't afford it" sums it all up to me.

First of all, it's misleading to talk about "the owners" OR "the players" as if either forms a unified bloc. With that in mind, what makes you think the big markets are really all that bothered about the small market teams? Yes, they need a LEAGUE to exist, but if a few sick teams fall away, as far as they're concerned that means less revenue sharing. It also means more sell-outs, because it's VERY hard to get a sell-out when the Bucks come to town, but replace them with another Knicks or Lakers game, and we're cooking.
Conversely, you don't think that the Players' Union wants there to be as many teams as possible? More teams=more jobs! "Sell it if you can't afford it" doesn't mean "go out of business" it means find an owner more like Mark Cuban and less like Donald Sterling.
You're drinking the Kool-Aid if you think all the owners want what's best for the league. What's best for the league is no lockout, but a vocal minority of owners WANTS a missed year.

    My reading between the lines

Players to union: take the fucking deal
Union to players: they said there is room on system issues. Lets all act irate at the proposed deal, list every system issue, and hopefully they will budge on a couple.
Players to union: If we do that, then you take the fucking deal!
Union: Of course we'll take the deal.

Fisher and Hunter listed every system issue that has been changed as areas to be discussed. They also said there are some issues that are not negotiable. However, they did not list which of the issues are non-negotiable. why? Because all of them are negotiable. Once the owners move on a couple system issues, the union will say that they held firm on the non-negotiable issues and got their victory. It's all about who has the biggest dick.

OH, GOD, this is rich. Don't want to be told where to work? Who's telling them where to work? There is a new WalMart being built by Albany. I'm sure they are hiring. As for not wanting to be told the conditions of their employment...the delusions of the players are worse than I thought. And that's saying something.

"Adversary." That says it all. Hunter does not apparently realize their common interests. I also love how Hunter has, from the very beginning, set preconditions on what he will and won't accept, but accuses his 'adversary' of coming in with preconditions. I love irony.

Players are showing serious willingness to give more on BRI in order for system exchanges. Shred of optimism? Source says owners will...likely give on system so long as they get more BRI. That would make so much sense if system hardline was always a means to the BRI end.

Sources also say player reps told TUES that NBA, at present, expects 16 teams would ratify proposal as laid out SAT and that 13 would oppose

Stern says he has no such plans of canceling games through Xmas right now.
