Stu Scott's pushing for an Emmy for this tonight. It's like he thinks he's Peter Jennings on 9/11 or something.

I'm in general dismissive of the Occupy movement, but imagine if these few thousand kids cared as much about changing their country and future for the better (regardless of their political bent) as they care about their college football coach...

Are you fucking kidding me?! I can see "no legal responsibility" for Paterno having done the absolute bare minimum of passing it along to the AD (in reality not his boss, but his underling given Penn State's power structure), but for you to suggest he met the minimum standard of morality or decency is disturbing to say the least. The fact that Sandusky was "barred" from coming to the University with young boys after this incident, acknowledges that they suspected something very wrong was going on but it also strongly implies that if he was going to keep doing it, just keep it off of school property. I'm no lawyer, so I'll defer to your expertise, but that sounds an awful lot like an accessory to a class B felony?

Fuck any of these assholes who knew something but did nothing

Most of these fucking mouth-breathers should be drowned in a sack ... god forbid this many people with this little intelligence actually massed to try and change something meaningful.

man, listening to these students' interviews...a couple are well-reasoned, articulate, on both sides of the issue--but some of them are saying stupid, stupid things. Maybe it's a function of the emotion, fueled by a few beers here and there and a mob mentality prevailing, but it's hard to watch.

This story is really polarizing. More so in Pennsylvania.

SHOCKING PENN STATE RUMOR: Jerry Sandusky 'Pimped Out Young Boys To Rich Donors'

Sportswriter Mark Madden went on WEEI in Boston and reported a rumor that alleged child molester Jerry Sandusky would pimp out boys to rich donors.

"I hear a rumor that there will be a shocking development from the Second Miles Foundation ... That Jerry Sandusky and Second Mile were pimping out young boys to rich donors."

Madden claims it's being investigated by "two prominent columnists."

We'd say this is ridiculous, and that you should take it with a grain of salt. But Madden actually wrote about Sandusky for the Beaver County Times six months ago — long before the scandal blindsided everyone else this week.

Madden also claimed Sandusky was forced out of Penn State in 1999.

"I think you'll find out that Jerry Sandusky was told he had to retire in exchange for a cover up."

Sandusky retired at 55 in 1999, a year after Pennsylvania police investigated (but did not prosecute) him for alleged molesting a boy.

Again, label this under "RUMOR." But Madden has been out in front of this story before, so stay tuned.

Re: And the name of his book is "Touched"

By whom was he barred from the University grounds? And was it for the incident that JoePa knew about?

I don't know what Paterno knew, but it's simply inaccurate to say that he "did nothing".

    You sound like a lawyer.

Seems fair to say he was not too concerned with protecting children.

I've read/heard a couple of sources that stated that the police were told of the incident. Did this happen? There is a big difference between telling the police (even if it is campus police, which I think is the police in the town) and just telling some admin.

I'm sure more will come out/become clear throughout the day.

Re: And the name of his book is "Touched"

I don't think that it's necessary to go to the police with everything you're told in order to prove that one is "concerned with protecting children". I'd say that we should all be most concerned about protecting those that we know first and foremost. I would trust a friend of several decades NOT to be a molester before I would assume that he is based on a tidbit of information that makes him look bad. Of course, there is a point where friendship must be discarded... but where that line is can be extremely fact-dependent. And we're lacking facts here.

I'm not saying JoePa knew nothing... I really don't know WHAT he knew. Without knowing what he knew, I think it's unfair to act like he's more in the wrong than the actual motherfucking scumbag who hurt the kids. (I also think that the graduate assistant had a responsibility to do more, if he was sure of what he saw and the university didn't go to the police. He saw the crime first-hand and had a moral responsibility to report what he saw and ensure that the wheels of justice were put into motion.)

Uh, no one is acting like he's more in the wrong than Sandusky. But he is in the wrong. Almost every adult in the situation here is in the wrong. Just because Sandusky is in the gigantic realm of fucking wrongs of wrongs by himself in this scenario does not mean anger and outrage should just not be directed at the adults who saw or heard about these incidents. Pedophiles do not stop at one victim. They allowed Sandusky to continue to be on the campus, Paterno sent players to his charity still (that is from a former player of Paterno's who attended PSU after 2002), and again no one appears to have tried to find out who that little boy was.

We should all be most concerned about protecting victims, especially young children are violated in so many ways by pedophiles. See that is the problem - people trust their friends not to do wrong and thus do not take the proper channels on 'tidbits of information' because in their minds it is so far-fetched that they'd know and be friends with and trust a pedophile (rapist/murderer/etc) that they'd rather just ignore it or shove it into the back of their minds and convince themselves they 'did the most they could'.

No adult in this situation is worse or more at fault than Sandusky. But many, many adults here are at fault for worrying more about covering things up and protecting their own asses and living in denial and they could have prevented other young boys from being violated. This is a series of failures by so many adults that it is disgusting, and I feel no remorse for any of them losing their JOBS.
