Rose Bowl not quite in the Ducks court

Ducks will probably beat Oregon State and its probable that USC will beat UCLA. Ducks and the Trojans will then meet again in the Pac-12 championship game. USC is not bowl eligible. However, in the past a Pac-10 team has not been in the Rose Bowl as these examples.

    Jan 1, 2011: TCU 21 Wisconsin 19
    Jan 1, 2005: Texas 38 Michigan 37
    Jan 3, 2002: Miami 37 Nebraska 14

There is new guidelines for the Rose Bowl Selectivity.

USC can't play in Pac-12 championship game.

Also, that says if Pac-12 team makes NC game. And, well, that's not happening. :)

Oddly enough, Stanford might still have a shot if:

    Bama loses to Auburn
    Arkansas loses to LSU
Virginia Tech loses to Clemson in the ACC Championship

That would be TOO wild if the Ducks won the PAC-12, yet Stanford went to the Natty.

RR7: Your right about USC. So at this rate it could be the following teams that could play the Ducks in the championship game.

If Utah beats Colorado: Utah (5-4 conference) 8-4 overall then this would be a very easy pac-12 championship.
If UCLA beats USC: UCLA (6-3 conference) 7-5 overall then this would be fairly easy pac-12 championship.
Arizona St just lost to Arizona: So I doubt Arizona St is going to beat Cal so this probably won't work.

My feeling is that the Ducks will play Utah in the championship, since UCLA is weaker than USC.

LOL if Utah somehow goes to the Rose Bowl

Comprehension a weak point much? LOL.

    1. USC can't go to Pac12 Champ game
    2. Your link states, "the first time the Rose Bowl loses one of its traditional hosts (Big Ten or Pac-10 Champion) to the BCS National Championship Game, and a non-BCS team automatically qualifies for the BCS, that non-BCS team will be selected by the Rose Bowl." That isn't happening.

You are correct. Pasadena is not exactly in the Ducks court. But, it is in our sights and most likely in our future. I'll be there, either way. I'll just have more fun with Oregon there too, lol.

    Nonetheless, it could happen.

The espn commentators mentioned this on the Civil war game. It is possible since Stanford is ahead of Oregon in the BCS rankings, Stanford can still be selected to the Rose Bowl with only one loss to Oregon. Oregon has two losses. I won't be surprised if this happens since Stanford is taking on #22 Notre Dame (8-3) tonight in 32 minutes. If Stanford wins this, then this could happen.

Seems to be some confusion on this. Tournament of Roses has an agreement to take the Pac 12 Champ. If Oregon wins on Dec 2nd, they are going to The Rose Bowl. Earlier you cited an amendment to the agreement, which only changes if a Pac team is in the NC game. Doesn't appear that will happen and even if Stanford DID go to the NC game (highly unlikely) Oregon could still go, based on CONFERENCE record.

Wisconsin and Michigan State will battle for the Big Ten Champ and a trip to the Rose Bowl. Wisconsin is 10-2 (6-2) and MSU is 10-2 (7-1).

See how that agreement works? :)

But after Oregon's loss to USC, the Ducks are out of the national title picture and Stanford finds itself alone in first place in the Pac-12 North, a half-game ahead of the Ducks. If Oregon loses to Oregon State on Saturday, Stanford will host the Pac-12 title game.

However, if the Ducks beat Oregon State, Oregon and Stanford would finish tied for first and Oregon would earn a berth in the Pac-12 title game based on its win over Stanford, which would be left out of the Rose Bowl picture.

Then I guess espn commentators know nothing. Bad insight on their report.

If we beat UCLA, we're Rose Bowl bound.

The rules that Nate posted look like they would apply if Stanford played for the Natty AND Houston automatically qualified. The odds of both of those things happening seem very very slim to me. Alabama winning today basically locks them into the BCS championship game.

Not quite. By rule, no more than two teams per conference can be sent to BCS bowl games. If Georgia beats LSU in the SEC championship game, then Georgia would get the automatic qualifying bid to the Sugar Bowl, which would make up one of the teams from the SEC.

It would then be up to the BCS voters and its computers to decide which SEC team they would like to play in the NC game, Alabama or LSU? My guess would still be LSU, which by rule would mean that Alabama wouldn't even be able to play in any of the BCS bowl games.

EDIT: I think I read the rule wrong and I believe what I wrote is incorrect after having read this.

Wow, Oregon #9 in the BCS rankings. They need to blank UCLA to move up 2 slots.
