I'm halfway through Book Four now. It is interesting how HBO did introduce Roz, and how they made Theon more than a peripheral character in Season One.

I hope they keep to the themes, but if that's the case, a lot of popular characters won't be around, meaning Sean Bean is just the beginning. :)

Fucking called that one, eh? There is no ensemble award at the Emmys, apparently, so that was impossible.

They never for sure say he is dead but its pretty safe to assume he died.

In the book (I can't recall exactly what they showed on the show) he fought off the guys for a few minutes (hitting them in their heads, etc.) until Trant sliced his wooden sword in half... if he'd had a real sword, we get the impression he would have destroyed them.

thats exactly how it played out in the show actually, kinda funny, he was still squaring off against the bad guy with his lil wood sword stump. i def wanted him to somehow escape though, that would have been truly bad ass

I just finished the first book. Bought the HBO series but haven't watched it yet. I have trouble following all the characters. I know the main ones, but the bannerman and all the other side characters are hard to follow. I've never been a huge fan of books similar to this. I hated LoTR and this series sort of reminds me of that, but not really. I enjoy this much more than LoTR. It's a little difficult to keep everyone straight. Obviously the Starks are easy, and the Lannisters, etc, but holy shit sometimes I have to read a paragraph twice to understand what they're talking about.

Looking forward to watching season 2 after I watch season 1.

Yeah as this show progresses it is going to make The Wire seem like it had a small cast by comparison.

I'm stoked to get through finals this week and next just because I've gone 10 weeks without reading GoT (or ASOIAF should I say) lol. Finished the second book over Christmas break.

Yeah its rough keeping track of characters at first, I reference the lists of all the houses and their members at the back of the book all the time as well as the maps at the front. It seems to get easier over time to keep track but there's still confusion.

Definitely Tyrion is my favorite character. Love *SPOILER* his chapters in the second book where you get an insight into his scheming in and around King's Landing and the sort of back and forth political chess game he plays with Cersei.

All of Dany's chapters in the second book were a chore to read. I get it, there's many fine oils and wines and vast desert and shit and people want the dragons. All the other story lines were so much more interesting, this one took like 15 chapters and ultimately produced very little.

Sucks to hear that Syrio never re-appeared. I had thought he could have escaped from that battle and King's Landing with his "swift as the wind" mastery and what not. Then again part of what I love about the books is that Martin isn't sentimental and tends to keep stuff "realistic", if that makes sense.

In terms of the LOTR trilogy, I couldn't even make it through The Fellowship of the Ring. With A Song of Fire and Ice, I'm almost done with A Dance with Dragons now, and am hoping for a Book 6 within the next year or so. Stick with it, because I found it worthwhile, and I typically hate this genre.

I just checked the first book out from the library via download. I've never listened to a book on tape before and I'm struggling to pay attention and not do other things on the computer while listening. It makes it even harder to know who's talking about who. I'm going to give it a good shot, but I doubt even if I make it all the way through the first book like this that I'll do any of the others the this way.

Yeah, the first book is 28 discs and over 33 hours. I have 21 days to get through it. Good thing I'm unemployed...

Funny you mention that because I was raving about the book and show after finishing the book and got my housemate and his girlfriend watching the show. But a few episodes in she decided to just get the audio books and listen to them at work (which is her preferred method of consuming books). It works for her but I couldn't comprehend a See Spot Run audio book much less Game of Thrones, I just get distracted too easily.

Word. Now if Martin can just stay focused enough to finish the next two books before HBO is ready to shoot them...
