He (Obama) pledged to veto any attempt by lawmakers to repeal a requirement for $1 trillion in automatic spending cuts that are to be triggered by the supercommittee's failure to reach a compromise, unless Congress approves an alternative approach.................. I like that he's calling their bluff and sending the spoiled brats to bed without their dinner.
This is what happens when the can gets kicked down the road: no one is willing to cut anything. Fortunately there were some consequences put in place that will result in automatic cuts. Ed O.
What this shows is that no plan that is "politics as usual" will solve our problems. We need to think outside the box. Our current politicians don't have that mental capability. Or the guts.
We don't have a "leader" who can lead. Meaning, helping to bring folks together for the common good. Without true leadership, chaos and/or selfishness reigns. For all his shortcomings, Clinton was a master at this. That said, he made some personal compromises.....not to mention, compromising situations.
A President can only suggest we all act as adults, which he has done for 3 years now. Eisenhower was a leader, but the Nazis would never have followed him. They had different goals. Congress and the House are the enemy, the ones destroying America, the ones who passed the bills and wrote the laws which are draining our wallets, the ones refusing to put aside their bribe money and do what they were elected to do.
It worked as intended. Both sides think they have the winning argument for 2012, so compromise wasn't going to happen.
It was kind of silly. But, I digress. Obama has not shown the leadership that is literally commanded from the position he carries. I see it as a case whereas he pawned everything off on this so-called Super-committee. Wimpy leadership begets chaos and/or contempt. It is what it is.
That transcends Barfoisms, situationally. That's like Que sera, sera. What will be, will be. This, too, shall pass.
Except for the minor fact that it was CONGRESS that created the supercommittee and pawned everything off on them. Otherwise, yeah, I see your point completely. barfo
