What are you talking about? NHL revenue rose the year following the lockout: 2003-04 $2.083 billion 2005-06 $2.178 billion 2006-07 $2.318 billion The NHL set a record with revenue of $3.0 billion last year and they expect it to continue to increase this year.
Before the trade happened I was a full advocate for blowing it up, but once they got him I figured I might as well sit back and enjoy the ride. Contrary to popular belief I don't root against the team.
Well if that is the case, you can say "I told you so" no matter what happens with Wallace. If he is a bust, your over the hill and bad move chant works, if he does well your excitment and how great he is with this team works. Not a bad stategy for the " I told you so" group.

I didn't realize the NHL is so close to the NBA. How does the Stern publicity machine get away with the adoration year after year? He's been there a quarter of a century and other leagues have caught up.
That is pretty surprising. I never would have guessed that NHL revenue is 3/4ths of NBA revenue. barfo
That's simplistic. Wallace is better at some things and worse at others. Batum has more of a SF/SG skill set, while Wallace is more of an undersized PF (like Shawn Marion). But if we're only including players under contract in 2012, Wallace won't be included. I envision a starting frontline of Batum at SF, Freeland at PF and Aldridge at C. And us sucking.
I was at Game 4. Easily the most thrilling sporting event I've ever been to. We lost the series . . . to the NBA Champs, and played them tougher than anybody else did along the way. You have to remember the predicament we were in. It's not like there was another deal out there that was going to set us up for the future with can't-miss prospects. When they announced the Wallace deal at the deadline, it felt like we fleeced Charlotte big time. Batum was the only commodity that anybody cared about on our roster. We just had too many injured (or coming back from being injured) players that nobody wanted near the deadline last season.
Yes, Wallace is rudundant to Batum, but it was by far the best deal available to us at the trade deadline, and fortunately we have an owner who grabs the best deal whenever he can.
I still thought there would be a season all along. People panic way too much around here. All this chaos might have put pressure on Hunter at least.
Maybe my memory is failing me, but I feel like Gerald was more successful as a 3 this year than his stints at 4. I also think I read he prefers to play 3, so let him play 3...Batum can get his time off the bench, where IIRC, he had some good games after the trade.
