[img=http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/720/9495mar19returnindianapacers2v.th.jpg]I've never seen this before, if someone knows whats up with the 45 - please share the knowledge.
I thought everybody knew this The reason why he wore #45 is because when he retired the Bulls quickly retired his #23 jersey. He switched to #45 because thats the number he wore for the Birmingham Barons minor league baseball team that he played with during his retirement. It lasted a season but he switched back to #23 during a 2nd round playoff matchup.

He picked 23 because it's half as much as 45 (when rounded). There was also a period where he wore the number 12, half as much as 23.

You really didn't know about #45? Wow... I'm with Balla - I thought everybody knew that?I knew about #12 too, I have a nice MJ biography I read like 6 years ago. I know so much about Mike because of that book, the 5 videos I have of him, etc. Best player of all-time!

I knew he wore 12. I found out in my SIKids "Strange, But True" book I got in the book fair in 4th grade. In the book it says...<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Before a February 1990 game between the Chicago Bulls and the Orlando Magic, Michael Jordan's jersey vanished. The Bulls didn't have an extra number 23 jersey, so Michael wore number 12. That jersey did not have a name on the back. But fans at the game in Orlando, Florida, quickly figured out the idenity of the mystery man wearing number 12. His Airness scored 49 points that night.</div>Thank God for the book fair.
