It'll be a long time before Greg gets back into the flow of things, he's been out since 2009, our center position SUCKS! C: Marcus Camby | Chris Johnson | Greg Oden The looming sale of the team, Greg Oden unrestricted free-agency, below average starting PG -- it's going to be a long season.
Well stated. I could have used a year off from all this but no doubt will get sucked into it once the games start.
Probably won't, at least at first. Not really, just sick and tired of rooting for a team that seems to go nowhere in a league system that seems like its stacked against them.
So far my apathy has more to do with not being all that fanatical about any of the current players. I mean, they're nice guys and all, and some of them are very talented but...they're pretty humdrum in the personality department. Other than Patty Mills, this squad has no entertainers. I'm more excited that Fantasy Basketball is on than the NBA.
You guys aren't gonna' watch the preseason games! They are on TV! C'Mon, you aren't interested in how your so called favorite team looks?
Hold on though. We have elite players in Aldridge and Oden who do want to play here. And it seems Roy desperately wants to play for us. I also thought we'd be winning multiple championships by now but I still don't think one is out of the question. You have GOT to be kidding me. Gerald Wallace is WAY more than just a role player (Do you forget how he destroyed Durant on both sides of the court?). He's two years removed from being an All Star and first team all defensive. You're also selling Felton short who, in the first half of the season last year before being traded, was playing like a top six point guard in this league.
I am read for the season to start. Agree with KS that Wallace is being sold short and Felton had a great first half of the season. Cannot wait for Friday in hopes of us shoring up our front court depth and to see us playing again.
Interesting article on ESPN by Howard Bryant. While he is talking about the NFL, his underlying point applies to all sports: too many fans act as if accountability begins and ends with the players. They turn a blind eye when coaches and front offices give a half-hearted effort. His comments about how the Colts failed to deal with the loss of Manning could just as easily have been an essay on the Blazers. (particularly the part about a coach who won't change his gameplan to reflect personnel changes.) It is a very good explanation as to why some of us are approaching a state of despair. (and why we are so frustrated with fans who shrug and pretend everything is just grand)
I started a thread just like this a few months ago. But I have to admit that old feeling is starting to creep back in for me. Here's why: 1. Aldridge showed that he could be a top 5 NBA player for a month last year. Can he do it for a full season now that he knows what it takes? 2. Gerald Wallace hasn't really done his thing yet, and he still looked good last year. Our spacing sucked and so he took too many perimeter shots. I really expect that to change now. 3. Felton seems like a better fit with our current talent than Miller. 4. Batum really matured playing in Europe. He added a post game and a pick-and-roll. 5. Oden. The ever-tantalizing what-if of Oden. It's not tantalizing enough anymore to make you drink the Kool Aid, but it's enough to still make you lick your lips afterward. 6. Roy should be on a very short leash. We won't have a 2-8 stretch due to our idiot coach trying to fit him in. I think he becomes the new Rudy Fernandez--if he's killing it, leave him in. If not, you let him sit.
Damn . . . I'm getting sucked in. I used to come to this site once a day, if that. Now when I drink my coffee and start my day, this is one of the first sites I come to to see if there is any new Blazer developments. That didn't take long. The NBA has me by the balls. Go Blazers!
I realize now how little TV I watch during basketball season when the Blazers aren't playing. I've watched more "goodnight show" on Sprout trying to get my little girl to sleep than even Sportscenter the last few months.
As I mentioned, I figure once practices, etc. start and we get to see what is really happening, I will get interested. It is just now, all the pre-startup humdrub has me rather humbug. Gramps...
