a good defender, decent defender, average defender or a terrible defender?Someone on this board thinks he's a soild defender and i and 95% of laker fans disagree. So, everyone i want an explanation ,not a one liner.

Yes, it is. But steals ARE a part of defense. And because he does get a lot of steals is the only reason I don't deam him a bad defender.
I say hes a decent defender when he has a good defensive game. Sometimes I think he gambles too much on defence, but as ThaFranchize says, he does make up a bit with steals.
Thankyou so much Melo! NBA Dogmastist thinks he is a very solid defender, I think he is trash. He can't stay up on his man at all, and pretty much puts no effort into defense.
Getting steals doesnt mean your playing good defense guys. Does that mean AI is a great defender as well? Smush sucks at man to man, and thats the only defense I really think matters.
Smush is a decent defender... it was pretty much covered when you guys said his man D isnt that good, but he makes up for it in steals. But then again the steals are risky at times.
I didn't watch the Lakers at all this year...never watched Smush Parker...I think he's overrated by fans in the general...

I would say he is an ok to slightly below average at staying in front of his man. But I would say he is a good off ball defender. He plays the passing lanes very well.
Hes just average to me because, just like everyone else said, he gets those steals but really isn't that great on D.
Mn doesn't matter. He needs to get better at help defense and rotations. He has really quick hands and long arms but he need to improve on pick and rolls. Someone like Nash can get all of his point of burning Smush on the pick and roll.
