Okay here it is. The question is will Brandon play the reserve role? They aren't getting the 80 mil worth, but it's tough to let him go. They don't think any other team would have given Oden 8.9 million. That portland would have done this if he wasn't the number 1 pick. Basically saying they think Portland should have given up on Oden, understands why they are keeping Roy and basically Portland is fucked. Thanks nba.com!
you dont give up on oden yet. roy for one year to see what you have is ok, but next year you cut him.
Kind of depressing but I'd basically agree with their sentiment, we are wasting money on Oden and Roy this season. But from a Blazer fans perspective I don't care what money Paul Allen wastes. If the only talent cost to our roster is a downgrade from Chuck Hayes at $20 million to Kurt Thomas at $3 million, I think in total we have a great benefit on the court for our Blazers. Hell not having the full MLE could be a benefit next season since we won't have a bad contract stuck on the books. For this season Roy and Oden's financial cost to on court production is a horrible return on investment. But their on court performance can still be a benefit over nothing. One of the benefits of having a great owner like Paul Allen.
That's an awfully definitive statement without even seeing them play or practice this year. Yes, the past provides us useful data, and we should be mindful of trends. However, a roulette wheel can come up red everytime in theory...I say let's gamble on production from both guys, and let Uncle Paul spend his money.
If waived Roy was rumored to be getting $5 million a year amnesty bids max and Oden was considered a big gamble at Miami's $5 million MLE if they had it available. So us spending $25 million on players the market values under $10 million is a horrible projected return on investment. Obviously we never know the exact return until games are played but we can come up with general estimates and using those estimates the Blazers are making two bad choices from a financial perspective.
Screw what they are projected worth to other teams its what they are worth to our team that matters and not having both of them on the team is a bigger blow to us then there money on the books matters.
I'd just be happy to see that Larry Miller and Paul Allen have a real plan in place. This is the scene at One Center Court 90% of the year:
Oh yes I totally agree since I'm a fan of the team I'm only really concerned about the play on the court this year. And its someone else paying the money.
