If Roy did this I would immediately let him retire #7. Opening Night. Cap savings, insurance paying for it (I think), still get to use amnesty. I know he could care less about BrianFromWherevertheHell, but that kind of selfless act to help your team out would let him go out on a Hero Level for me.

Re: According to Chris Broussard, Roy to announce medical retirement today! Actually works out much better IMO. We don't lock up a player to a long term contract and we have cap space to either sign oden, Wallace and Batum to long contracts and still remain under cap.
I know it's insensitive of me (but hey when have I ever been accused of being sensitive) but this is a win-win for both Roy and the Blazers if it really goes down.
If this is true, I hope he stays with the organization in some kind of developmental role. There is so much he can teach Wes and Nic about scoring, and also to help LA in developing that clutch mentality.

It makes the off-season coming up a little bit dicey, but after that it's a huge boon for the team -- insurance will pick up some of the tab on his contract, we get to keep the amnesty just in case we need to use it and cap room wasn't really going to be all that big of a deal for this team anyway, aside from changing the mid-level exception available to us this coming July.
why would they use the amnesty if he retires? thats dumb. also it takes 1 year for the retirement clause to kick in.... which means no cap space next season. we are fked
