I don't even read Canzano because he thinks he's a psychologist future teller and that if he can type it it's the truth. Should preface quotes with the author name so I can avoid wasting my time.

Does that imply that Oden himself also thinks that?

Oden signing the QO is easily the best decision for him, and in no way does it say anything about where he wants to play next year.

Stupid people will be stupid, though

It would almost be worth it if Oden signs with Indiana, and when asked why says: "I was gonna sign with Portland, but Quick and Canzano are such douchebags that I felt it was worth sacrificing an extra year and 20% of my earning potential to get away from that pair of bowling shoes."

Quick/Canzano are tools and will jump on anything that will make drama just to get there name floated around. No one knows what Oden will do. He could leave he could stay. He could leave, since there is a lot of basketball to be played before next summer i'm personally just going to ignore the situation unless some relevant information from Oden, not clown #1 or clown #2, comes out. If he is healthy and we give him a huge extension at all star break cool, if he isn't healthy or is and he walks then at the end of next year Oden/Wallace/Camby/Amnesty Roy and that what 45 Mill off our books, sounds good to me.

I think the first question is, what are the chances that this will matter? What are the chances that Oden can get through a whole season without going down with a season ending knee injury? What have these injuries done to his body, to his psyche?

If he gets through the whole season and plays like he did pre-injury, Portland will offer him a Max contact. How many other teams can offer a max? Why would he turn us down when we've stood by him?

If he does not....does it matter where he goes?

Hey look, this is all POR inept Management's fault....

They SHOULD have at least ATTEMPTED to offer him a multi year deal, 3-4 years $8-9 million, maybe (hopefully) make that 3rd/4th year player\team option.....

But they didn't...so he signs the QO and now can walk for nothing, or at best, he plays well enough to warrant a fair amount of interest and POR had to overpay to keep him (if they can).....

    Just complete bungling management....

Is that 8-9 a year or 8-9 total? I am guessing you mean 8-9 million a year for 3-4 years. And you accuse the Blazer management of being stupid? You want them to blindly extend his contract 4 more years when he has already missed most of his first 4 years?

I don't think that would be stupid at all, if healthy he would easily get that or more as an UFA...Heck he is GETTING $8.9 as a qulifying offer RIGHT NOW...

So what is POR REALLY on the hook with here? ONE extra year at $9-$1o million and another that they would have an OPTION on? For a guy who, even with all his injuries, which are a legit concern no doubt, is STILL only 23 years old. You only offer the player option so that Oden has the option to opt out (because under such a scenario he has been healthy and playng well and would likely warrant more on the free agent market). Not much for POR to lose under such a deal...one extra year to lock Oden up, especially that it is very likely he will only play about 1/2 the season this year anyway...

So yeah, I think you are wrong...In fact chances are Oden would turn it down, That is why I'd even be willing to go 4 years (year 4 team & player option) to entice him further...
