Joe Freeman @BlazerFreeman The source said Roy met w/ doctors Thurs and, after an evaluation of his knees, was told: "You can't do this. You might end up not walking."
Joe Freeman @BlazerFreeman The source said Roy is very "emotional" and was not sure whether Roy would address media today during first day of camp. Sounds unlikely.
He makes it sound like the Blazers lose in this situation. Roy does get to go out on his terms, but this is what the Blazers wanted too.
He's going on and on with his conspiracy on twitter. Completely disrespectful to Roy's character too.
If this is true then Canzano hit a new low. And that is hard to do edit: OOps I meant to quote this: Joe Freeman @BlazerFreeman The source said Roy met w/ doctors Thurs and, after an evaluation of his knees, was told: "You can't do this. You might end up not walking."
There's a glaring mistake in the linked article: "Plus, this wouldn’t be the first time the Trail Blazers have convinced a cap killer to retire when he still was able to play in the NBA, word to Darius Miles. If he’s a medical retirement, he still gets all the money from that giant contract he signed in 2010, so it’s not the worst thing in the world for him. Of course, just like Darius Miles, Roy could retire and then decide that at 27 he’s not ready to be done playing professional basketball for the rest of his life. If he comes back and some other team signs him — even for one game — the Trail Blazers are on the hook for his salary, which would be the only thing more hilarious than paying a max salary to 2011 Brandon Roy in the first place." As any Blazer fan can tell you, it's 10 games, not one, and preseason games count. BNM
Pretty sad news, but at least he knows it's time to call it quits before he got hurt even worse. I have a lot of respect for him, more than any of these so called "stars" like Paul and Melo.
As an NBA fan, I will miss him. I've been watching more and more Blazers games the past few seasons. It's hard not to like the guy and appreciate him as a player. I had hopes he could figure out how to play anyway, but it doesn't appear to be the case. At this point, I really hope he can walk when he's 45.
I know there are a ton of pessmistic dbags on this thread but i am truely devastated by this...we will never see one of the classiest players of all time grace us with his presence on the court again. thank you brandon roy a true warrior who gave everything to this organization
Been in meeting. Shocking news. Not that BRoy is retiring. But, that he is retiring right now, after being told he might start. My guess is that after working out this year in Seattle testing his knees, that Brandon thought "ok it is often painful, but I can gut this out. At least I can move." He goes for a checkup with the doc, and is told that the workouts have been causing significant damage to the bone and an NBA season will likely cripple him. Thank you Brandon for playing a large part in turning a dying franchise around. You will always hold a special place in fan's hearts because of that.
Bummer deal -- Brandon will be very much missed. Glad that he's from Seattle because I'll expect him to be seen here and there.
It was obvious he was on borrowed time in the league. I'm glad he's doing this now, rather than later. I'm rather happy that I won't have to suffer seeing Roy in any Urine colored uniforms anytime soon.
Now I'm wondering if Canzano's twitter has been hacked. JohnCanzanoBFT John Canzano So does this mean Brandon Roy won't start?
Does anybody even know if that scenario is possible in an entirely new CBA? I doubt it. Let's not worry about something that may not even be possible in the new deal.
