So, if Roy retires, how will that affect the state of the Blazers? a few of my thoughts 1) Loss of talent and leadership. 2) Batum and Wes can both really contend for the starting position 3) amnesty can be used elsewhere, but where? 4) Blazers, once the retirement kicks in, will have a very large amount they can use on a replacement player what else?
An end to the uncertainty. A more focuced group that will have to take upon themselves the responsibility of winning. If you remember, some of the best games that the team played last year were when they were very short handed and all had to step up.
the big trade exception could be very interesting. The Blazers could trade for a shit player who needs to be amnestied and get some first round picks in the process, or they could try and trade for a good player. I like the idea of trading for a to-be-amnestied player since doing a trade like that will only cost PA money and not the teams cap, but for other small market teams, saving the money might be real important, and good young players or picks could help our future.
One thing we should get is an injury exception for this season. Having the full MLE to throw at a player for one year is going to be a better option for picking up a big man compared to getting scraps with the lower MLE.
I have not heard anything about that. I tried to pull up the rules, but the website is not working. I thought, as long as the player was signed prior to the new CBA, they could be amnestied at any time. I never heard that being traded voided that.
Great idea, but that exception would not be available immediately. But it could be a big component to improvement right before the trade deadline (whenever that is).
wellll, if crash picks up his option, and oden signs for 10 million or so, we will have 15 million or so in cap room next year if crash opts out, and oden moves on we will have 30 million in cap room next year
It's been reported on numerous ESPN articles by guys like Chris Broussard, Larry Coon, Hollinger, etc. You can only amnesty players both on your roster and under contract at 7/1/2011. No amnesty allowed for players traded.
Damn! Well, thanks for letting me know. I don't see anyone else to use it on unless there is an injury to LMA, Matthews or Wallace. Everyone else is either expiring or on a cheap contract.
I hadn't considered the injury exception angle. The rules are a little hazy in my memory, but maybe this allows them to sign Freeland for the full mid-level? (assuming that's what they want to do).
They might decide to use it on Wallace this summer if they somehow get a big name free agent to come to Ptd.
I think there is some injury exemption that allows a team to get a free agent. I don't know the full details
