Seems like that might be a good idea; i wonder if they have a provision in the amnesty rule for what if there are no bidders? Also amnesty seems like a better deal for the Blazers, to make sure the Darius Miles type mess doesn't happen again.
Told my son this morning about Brandon retiring before he went to school...... he sounded like he was about to cry, this was his hero!
From my understanding it wouldn't really make sense. The difference of keeping Roy on contract and using the amnesty on him is going from being able to offer a mini mid level to the full MLE. Not much difference considering the targets out there. Smarter to wait until he is off the books and we can use it on somebody else next year if needed.
I can't believe this. I feel like Jessica Alba just curb stomped by balls but then decided we could have a quicky to make up for it (Roy's cash coming off the books).
This is really sad (within a sports context). He was such a remarkable player to watch...he wasn't close to the best of the players I've seen, but he had a playing style that was close to unique. Even though he was a world class athlete, he never looked like he was out-running and out-jumping his opponents...he looked like he was sliding through them for baskets. It was the damndest thing I ever saw. It's also sad, especially in the context of the Oden selection, of the shining young team with so much promise. The team is not in terrible straits, and Aldridge is actually making good on his promise now, but it's no longer the seemingly elite collection of talent that it seemed.
NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Sad F'ing day in Ripcity! Sorry couldnt resist in making my own thread. Someone just retired but it feels more like someone just passed away.
Brandon Roy got me back into being a Blazer fan. He is the type of all star that was needed for this organization at that time. Players, salary cap implications, trades . . . all that will come and go as the seasons go on. A player like Roy coming to the franchise is rare. Sad day for Blazer fans.
Amnestying Roy now = PA pays for BRoy. Letting him retire medically = insurance pays for BRoy. With 62 mil + left on that deal, I don't see an amnesty happening.
Re: NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! That would shock me. Brandon has never seemed like a publicity whore, he certainly doesn't need the money, and why would he want to be away from his family? Now HCP on the other hand....
Re: NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I don't see Brandon doing anything in the future regarding the media. He has never been one to need to be on camera and in my opinion doesn't really have the voice for broadcasting.
