Are we smart for not drafting him..or could of his career been different in Toronto? I mean, it's horrible for such a young player with a promising future to have to retire for medical reason, but if you look at that draft in 2006, the only truly GOOD players are Rondo, LMA, Gay & Bargnani...only Rondo & Roy has made an all-star team. So I ask you this...did we take the right player? I mean, obviously Rondo became something not many scouts predicted, but Bargs is still dropping 22+ PPG, with being healthy, he seems to have a bright future. I am still am all for trading Il Mago, but after seeing what happened to Roy, I wanna know what ya'll think.
LOL We can still at least trade our player for something useful, even if the Blazer get a lump sum for early retirement. I personally wish we took Rondo, I don't even have to much faith in LMA; I'll take Ed Davis over him any day. However, it's crazy to think that the best player in that draft is retiring, and the second best player is being shopped.
LMA isnt being shopped and just think about what roy did for the team, monumental leader, brought back the fans, and saved the franchise. rookie of the year, 3X all star, all nba, i think you take that, even if you know thats all you are going to get
Rondo is being shopped. He's better than LMA. That's all true, but now what? Are the Blazers still a team who will compete for a championship..I doubt it now.
well, we will likely be in the playoffs and from there its a crapshoot, as the mavs showed last year toronto....not so much and according to all statistical measures, lma is better than rondo (higher PER, more winshares, higher WS/48) and taller larger dong plus i have on good authority from an 1980's female movie star that rondo collects and plays with dolls
LOL, stats wise I guess LMA is better...but I'll take Rondo over LMA any day. PG's driven league. I'm not trying to discredit LMA or Roy..but this is just the type of thing that makes you sit back as a Raptors fan and say "Dodged a bullet" To me, if I were a Blazers fan, I'd feel crappy. You star player is gone, your second best player is still under medical attention. While the Raptors may not make the playoffs, our future is brighter than Portland's now with this happening. Ed Davis will only get better, DeMar is a stud in the making, Amir Johnson got a lot bigger, and this year will show his true skills. Jonas is over seas, and is way better than Oden, I don't even see how you can argue against that. Portland is still a quality team, but how you deny that they didn't get worse. You're best player just retired. I don't need luck, this thread be in my home town.
That is a very good point, he may of done things Bargs will never do. I'm not a fan of Bargnani by any means, I'm his biggest hater. But I'd be a hella pissed, if his knees gave out and we picked him number 1. Like I said, this is one of those things you sit back and think "Damn, that guy could of been OUR star player" Cause if we had him, we may of not taken DeMar..maybe Bosh would of stayed who the hell knows. In the end, it's a shitty thing to happen..but I wanna know what Raptor fans think about this.
well... i do feel crappy. roy was a class act, and it is beyond sad to see this happen. has there ever been a star that was done at 26 like this? i cant think of any, im sure there was, but damn. demarr is average almost, we will see if he steps up this year and jonas is better than oden? i guess we will see, oden put up top 10 in the league stats when he was in the game, and there is no reason to think he isnt going to recover fully from the MFs ala amare/zbo/kmart jonas could very well be the next gasol, but he could also be the next bargs
Aldridge is the best player on portland, that was pretty evident last year. He can carry a team and will onlu get better. Dude was all nba third team last year, tell me why you would keep ed davis over lma again?
I wanted Roy first going in to the draft, cause we had a huge need at SG. I'd still take him over Bargs, until today LOL. Jonas, I think will be..and yea WHEN Oden played..which was all of less than 82 games total or something like that. As I said last year in the Blazer forum before I was banned, Oden is done and will never recover. You can look as close as Mr. Roy to see that. I would of loved to see Oden go to work and do what his potential had him going, but that's long gone. Blazer fans can hold on to "Oden coming back" but when that happens, wake me up. DeMar I just don't see being a bad player. He works hard, his shot is always getting better; and I see him stepping up and being a leader, especially with Dwayne Casey bringing in a whole new team plan, with defense and offensive sets. I think Jonas will be more Paul Gasol than Bargs. As he actually plays defense, rebounds, boxes out while doing his thing on the offensive side of the ball.
Ed Davis has been in the league one year, but his defensive potential is very good IMO, not to mention he's always getting to great spots on the floor. I doubt you watched many Raptor games last year, so it's stuff you won't see on the stat sheet. I do however watch enough Blazer games, mainly due to the high amount of posters here, so I see LMA play. Very good player, no doubt..but long term wise..I'll take Ed Davis. No matter how many stats you throw at me.
I don't care to argue Rondo vs. LMA..I'm just stating what I think in terms of players. I'd have Rondo over LMA, because you can find decent PF's as well as draft them..but PG's with great quickness, he can break you down off the dribble, get to the whole..it's hard find to a good PG who can do what Rondo does.
Ugh, you know who's going to come and post in this thread now, don't you MS? I wouldn't but your avatar is... entrancing.
