One of the gnarliest endings to a fight I've seen. A standing guillotine that resulted in Machida dropping to the mat unconscious. I was a little torn in this fight. Jones and Machida are my favorite fighters. Machida looked like he was setting up Jones and you could tell Jones was having a tough time figuring Machida out. Jonny Bones is a monster.
Amazing fight. Jon Jones is just born to fight, the dude is unreal. Putting someone to sleep like that, is insane. I need to see a Silva vs. Jones ASAP..that'll be some crazy shit.
Jones would destroy Silva. The only competition Jones will have is in the heavyweight division. As far as gnarly goes, how about Mir breaking Nogueira's arm last night? That was brutal!
This is the third former champ that Jones destroyed. This is a big month for the UFC. The Jones/Machida fight was one of the most anticipated matches in a long time. It gets better on December 30th:
I love MMA. I'm a big boxing fan too, but that sport is so crooked I just can't get into it as much anymore.
Apparently, Fox is gonna be broadcasting (for free) some big MMA fights in January as to potentially attract new fans.
Amazing to think Jones is just 24. He could dominate for another decade or more. Hell, Anderson Silva is 37 now. He's a fantastic wrestler and has lethal elbows once he gets on the ground, so you don't want to get in close. But he's also got an 84" reach--a full 10" longer than Machida. So it's not like it's a great idea to hang out from the perimeter. Machida had the right idea, I think. Stay way outside, bull rush, then GTFO before he can tangle you up. That worked pretty well for a round. But once Jones connected a few times Machida slowed down a half step, and the "GTFO" part was just too slow. And he was done. I'd love to see Machida work himself back into a rematch. He'd lose again, but honestly he's got a better chance than anybody else in his division.
Jon Jones will have either Rashad Evans or Phil Davis doing the stanky leg in about six months (Jones is taking 4-5 months off after fighting four times this year). Regarding ABM's comment, FOX is showing Evans vs. Davis on the 28th of January, on regular FOX at 9pm. If you watched the last FOX show and were disappointed to only see one fight, the next one is going to be as many as they can fit into two hours, including two title eliminators and one contender match.
I'm glad they figured that out. Their first show sucked. They had one fight and it ended in a 1st round KO. That was stupid.
