<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Suns nearing deal for backup to NashBy Jerry Brown, TribuneJuly 10, 2006The Suns are on the verge of making a deal for a veteran point guard to take some of the workload off Steve Nash.A league source indicated Phoenix will use the remaining $3.6 million of the trade exception picked up in the Joe Johnson deal with Atlanta last summer ? perhaps in concert with draft picks or players ? to secure a guard to replace Eddie House as Nash?s backup. The identity of the player to be obtained was not known, but the deal could be agreed to as early as this morning.Nash, 32, averaged a careerhigh 35.4 minutes a game last season. The two-time reigning MVP continues to be troubled by chronic back and hamstring problems. The team passed on picking up a point guard in the draft and is looking for more size and defense than House provided last season.</div>I hope it's someone that isn't ancient and can at least give us more than 5 productive minutes. I hope they don't screw up agian this off-season.
I dont think they need to sign another pg. I think Barbosa is fine. He cant neccisary run an offense, but Boris sure can when Nash is out..

marcus banks?...but then again hes not a "veteran" and i dont think that its cassell maybe it's rod strickland?
No, they can just play Barbosa at the 1, and have Boris control the ball when Nash is out. I guess they could sign a pg, but they shouldnt waste their time on a good one..
CB4, Barbosa is TERRIBLE at running the offense. He makes way too many mistakes. He's also short for a shooting guard so that's why I don't really like him. Diaw's not as effective at point guard. He can pass, but he failed as a point guard in Atlanta. A back-up point guard is a big need for the Suns. Probably the biggest. Barbosa and Diaw on the floor is okay, but our offense isn't nearly as good. We need a good PG or Nash won't get any rest. He needs to cut down his minutes this year.
I thought Sergio Rodriguez would've been a great back-up for Nash, and eventually his predecessor. Unfortunately for Phoenix, management is cheap.

Maybe you should raft a pg, but I wouldnt see you going after Banks..No real need.
I never said Banks but with the team we got here the Suns are in desperate need of a back-up point guard. Diaw is a good passing forward, he's not a point guard. And I just don't want to even think about Barbosa at the point. We need a vet who knows what he's doing here. Someone who could keep us from going on those scoring droughts without Nash, especially in the playoffs. We need to replace Eddie House with someone who doesen't choke in the playoffs.

It wasn't until he got put in the front court in PHX that he flourished.
Diaw can't run a team. He is a good compliment player, but he is a failure at PG. I still think they should've kept either Rondo or Rodriguez.
Maybe your right. They do need a pg who can run an offense to back up. They should have drafted one and kept him..
You really think a rookie could run the offense? Any rookie would probably be worse in his first year than Barbosa or Diaw. They need a vet. They need to win this year. Next year they can draft one with the 3 picks they have in a better draft.
Why not? He would only have to play for about 10 mins a game..Too bad Jordan Farmar went right before them..I think they should have drafted Mardy Collins..

Uhh, Jordan Farmar went just before him to the Lakers. Please do your research before you make a fool out of yourself.
They'd need to play more than 10 minutes. I'd rather have a vet who knows what he's doing rather than a rookie making rookie mistakes. And rookies drafted late in the first round usually aren't all that good their first year. Farmar isn't that great of a shooter and you need that on the Suns. Williams was there from UConn(right?). I'd rather have him than Farmar anyway. D'Antoni said though that nobody left in the draft would have gotten much playing time at all.
No..Nash would play around 33-35 minutes, and then in between that Boris could just run the offense with Leandro at the pg position.

Nash with 35 minutes had a career high in minutes last year. He shouldn't play more than 30 or else he won't be as good later in the playoffs because of his back. Need to keep him fresh.
