Not a huge move. He'd be a 3rd stringer behind Tinsley and Sarunas I guess. He might even go to the D League. I havnt seen enough of him, so I cant judge his game.
He can get time..You can't trust Tinsley he gets hurt all the time..http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/414...ne_off_waivers/Theres the link by the way..

Also, don't forget about Marquis Daniels who can also play some point. This is a weird signing, and I doubt he makes the team.
He could be an alright backup..he didn't open eyes in Boston, but as much as Tinsley gets hurt..he'll get some PT.

This is pretty much a D League signing. They will work with him, and hope that he can become a pretty good pg in the future. Im guessing that they signed him to the minimum.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Big Smitty @ Jul 11 2006, 12:48 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>He could be an alright backup..he didn't open eyes in Boston, but as much as Tinsley gets hurt..he'll get some PT.</div>..PT behind Sarunas, Tinsley, and Anthony Johnson. He will make the team! He can play both guard spots and has good court vision. He had some legal issues last season which seemed to hinder his relationship with the C's in my opinion. He will get some minutes. Sarunas sucks at the point! Tinsley WILL get injured. Nice signing, not a huge impact signing, but smart move by Bird.
Sarunas doesn't suck at the point, and even if he did he would still get minutes over this kid. I don't see him playing at all.

He averaged 7 and 3 in his rookie year, and he's only going to get better. And if Tinsley gets injured then Sarunas and Anthony Johnson hold up at point. I would bet you anything that Greene would be sent to the D League.
They didn't even sign him to the team, I believe he signed to their summer league roster. I just don't see him getting much time for the Pacers. I don't know what Bird is doing but so far all he's doing is duplicating with his draft pick Shawne Williams, Marquis Daniels and Oriene Green.
I don't see Orien fitting with Indiana, but I think he will suprise some of you Pacer fans. Sure, he's nothing to write home about and he's not going to fill up the stat sheet much, but he hustles like crazy, he's a big PG (6'3''-6'4''), athletic, decent court vision, and a good defender. He basically has zero offense though, and I agree that he could probably spend time in the D-League. He could end up seeing a few garbage minutes here and there when Tinsley is out, but other than that he's the 4th PG option on the team.
I don't think Sarunas is a servicable backup point. Not saying that Greene is better, but i don't think Sarunas can get the job done. OG is a pretty darn good defender actually. He's like glue on his man if he really focuses. He has the potential to be decent on offense, as he is a good passer, but he just hasn't adjusted to the pace of everything.

I hear you guys when you say that Orien will probably be a third stringer, but he might get put in a similar situation that he was in Boston last year. Where he gets brought in to be a third string type of player but due to injuries he gets a good amount of playing time. Tinsley can barley stay healthy, Darrel Armstrong has some miles on him, I think Orien can get some playing time on this team. Orien has a balanced game, it pretty much all needs to be worked on but he showed Celtics fans some flashes of really great basketball. He's a big, strong point guard and can be a hell of a defender when he's workin at it. Watch out for his penetrations too.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Oriene Greene will not make or break the Pacers. Irrelevant signing.</div>I really don't think you've seen the kid play that much, I wouldnt quite call it irrelevant. Low-impact, yes, but Oriene will definately put in some good minutes if Armstrong/Tinsley aren't healthy. By the way if anyone knows will Sarunas Jasikevicius be the full time starting point guard now for the Pacers?

Tinsley still has the spot barring a move. I agree Greene will most likely have more of an impact than many seem to believe.

I don't know why everyone thinks he's good enough to get numbers if he's put in a situation with some minutes... I stand by my opinion that this move is irrelevant. If he DOES actually get minutes, he won't do much with them. He is to the Pacers what Mardy Collins is to the Knicks.

Oriene Greene played in 80 games last year for the Celtics and definately had some good minutes. You haven't had one thing to say about Oriene's game, so I don't know how you have seen him play. Don't just look at the player profile on nba.com and judge the kid. There is a reason why Indy picked him up.
Dude he has no game. What is he good at in particular? Nothing. Like Mardy Collins, the guy has barely even played and he is ridiculously bad at every aspect of the NBA game. This signing doesn't even make sense; the Pacers need another guard much less than they need proficient big men. The fact that they even thought they needed to sign yet another PG shows me that you are supporting a move that makes absolutely no sense. And I'm definitely NOT talking out of my ass in this thread. :yess:
