we are seriously trading wallace for humprhries?? and what are we getting for wes? is this a blazer fire sale???
Dot-connecting: For those wondering how Portland can offer Crawford 2yrs, $10 mil, I believe that Wallace-to-ORL scenario is how. from hollinger Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine Blazers' main haul in proposed deal would be multiple draft picks for facilitating trade. Sounds interesting, opens up starting job for Nic, brings on room to sign Crawford without having to waive Roy, brings us multiple picks in one of the deepest drafts in years.
I really like the sounds of this. Hate to Wallace go, but he's no longer in the timeline of this team obviously.
Its crazy how much our team has changed in such a short time. Most people wanted Wallace so bad and it was a good get for us and now we are set to trade him for draft picks?
So we'd lose Wallace for picks, AND lose his ability to play the 4 in small lineups behind Aldridge. I don't really care about getting Crawford if we're dumping Wallace to do it.
Wallace isn't in the timeline of this team. We can now clear up cap room with trading Wallace and amnestying Roy. We could afford a legit 4 with that for use some of these new assets to get one in trade.
Who would the 4th team be? BTW, getting picks for us would be huge. Assuming it is Wes and Wallace going out (and Players X&Y coming back, assuming they're not expiring deals in the most conservative sense): we'd have "boatload" of picks, and some salary coming back (who in ORL or NJN do we like? That's why there has to be a 4th team, maybe) Business-wise, it leaves us with Players X and Y and LMA and not much else going into the FA period next year--saving us in space. We'd have around 23M spoken for in LMA, Batum's cap hold, Babbitt, Elliot, Smith, Gomes' Ghost, and the Euros PLUS whatever came back in trade (assume 10-15M in long-term players' salary coming back). So that becomes anywhere between 20-25M in cap room (minus whatever Oden's cap hold is, if that's renounced or not). With Oden's revamped not-quite-a-QO-anymore, does he have a significantly reduced cap hold? Now this makes a lot more sense. Sucks to see Wes and Wallace go, but we could be monsters in FA next year. Who could Players X and Y be from Team #4?
If Crash goes out, we better get something good. And by good I mean something a whole hell of a lot better than Jamal Crawford.
Rumors from earlier in the week of players "available": Josh Smith, Chris Kaman, Monta Ellis, OJ Mayo, Mo Williams, Odom (can only be traded by himself from NOH)
It would depend on the firsts, but Orlando and NJ do not have any that make that attractive. It would be a shame to have chased Crash for so long only to have him for a few games, then trade him for essentially what we gave for him.
