I'm going to get one and would like to know if 16 gb is enough. Is it better to go with the 32 gb model?
Get the 32g if you plan on using it for music and movies. The MP4 movies will quickly gobble up space!
My music collection is over 40G, so even a 32G model wouldn't do. However, the iPad will stream music from iCloud, so you effectively have unlimited music on it. But when you're not around an internet connection, you probably want to have _some_ music on the iPad. The thing plays games great, too, and those can be 20MB to 200MB each.
Depends.... if it's a Blue-Ray MP4 it could be 4 or 5g...... a regular MP4 around 750- 1g. I have all my movies on my home iTunes (so I can stream them on my appletv and transfer over 40 or 50 at a time to my MacBook for road trips.
Depends on what you want to use it for. I have a 16gb model. Kind of wish I'd gotten the 32gb. I have an Ipod and a laptop so I store most of my stuff there that I take with me. So I mostly use internet, apps, and photo features. I have a couple games on there I play from time to time. Anytime I want I can refresh what I have loaded on there so memory hasn't been that much of an issue. The clarity is amazing. And it has a little stand next to my bed I put it on to recharge....and while it is on there it has a nightstand app that shows time, weather, etc and plays music for me to go to sleep by and wake up to in the morning.
My daughter has about 2000 songs on her 16gb. She also has a ton of apps and a couple of movies, and she is pretty much out of space. Movies are the killers. We are passing her 16gb down to her brother and getting her a 64gb. The cool thing about them is that with the office apps, it has literally replaced her laptop
Cloud support on the iPad is kind of iffy. I have the 32GB version - and I am glad I got it instead of the 16GB. Amazon does cloud much better than Apple - so I actually do not have any issues with the Kindle Fire's very small 8GB...
I decided to get the 32 gb version. Thought about getting the 64 gb, but decided 32 should be enough.
Please describe your experience with the kindle Fire. My wife is asking for a tablet and I'm looking hard at this, as the iPad2 and the Android tabs are ridiculous in price IMO.
Depends what you want from a tablet. The iPad is mostly faster and is very smooth. The Kindle has better video performance - but otherwise, it is a little slower and sometimes hicks up a bit - but supposedly a new software release in the next two weeks will help with this (it's not a big deal, in my experience). I find myself using the Kindle more than the iPad - because I have a very big book library that is much easier to read on the Kindle - you have to run through hoops to read Kindle books on the iPad through the cloud reader - so it's not that easy. Of course, I do not use the camera on the iPad. The only thing that I really wish the Kindle had that the iPad has is bluetooth - for a bluetooth keyboard, when you want to actually write more stuff on it. I also find that the 10'' size of the iPad is not to my preference, I think it is too big for real portability but not big enough to replace a full-notebook that actually does work. But, as I said, I mostly use the tablets for media consumption, minimal email and some gaming. As far as applications - I love Flipboard on the iPad and Pulse on the Kindle. I think Flipboard is better overall of the two, but the difference is not that big. FWIW - WE use the Amazon Prime on our TV for streaming movies/TV shows - so having access to the same library from the Kindle and the TV/Computers is very nice - especially when you can start on one - and it resumes from the same place on the TV/Computer. Honestly, if you know what you want to do with the tablet - find which one has the better media/content and applications for it. But overall, I would say that the iPad is a better device, the Kindle is connected to a better service, at least for my use.
