<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>AJC.com - A Maryland court this afternoon lifted the ban that it last week placed on the Hawks and Thrashers signing players to multi-year contracts. The new order states that the Hawks can trade for players who have no more than 4 years remaining on their contract. The same goes for free agent signings.Any transactions that go beyond the new conditions ? i.e., exceed the salary cap or result in the acquisition of contracts longer than four years ? would require unanimous consent of the Atlanta Spirit board of managers. Essentially, that means Belkin would have to agree with the other owners to make such transactions.Source: Atlanta Journal Constitution</div>
Allen Iverson has exactly 4 years left on his contract... so if the sixers accept they can do that trade now.
Because of the whole issue between Steve Belkin and the rest of the owners during the Joe Johnson trade last year (Belkin didn't want Johnson, whereas all the other owners did). So, Belkin decided to sue all the other owners and try to win sole ownership of the team, and the judge pretty much said that during the whole lawsuit the Hawks and Thrashers weren't allowed to sign players to a contract longer than one-year, and they couldn't trade away current players with more than one year remaining on their contracts.
Oh ok. I gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up for me. The whole idea of it sounds stupid though. But I guess, it's good that they finally got the ban lifted and can now continue to work on their roster.
