Boozer was 10-14 for 22 points, 7 boards, 3 assists. Use the amnesty clause on him! (Sheesh) Rip is clearly still a very good player. So is Boozer. It was a joy watching the Bulls starters play 4 1/2 on 5 at the offensive end (Noah would be the .5)
He finished with 24 points and 2 steals to boot. Rip is clearly going to be a good influence on this team. He's put the headband rule to rest once and for all, for starters. He's a gifted passer. He's an offensive threat. And most importantly, I think he's going to influence Rose's game for the better (HUGE).
It'll almost be surreal going through a whole season with a SG that other teams have to account for. The optimist in me hopes the Rip signing acts like a keystone that allows everyone else to play up to their capabilities, making his presence more impactful than his individual play alone would indicate. I've always been of the opinion that the Carlos sentiment would go away quickly if he started putting a few good games together. Anyone remember what people were saying about Luol at this time last year? If he can get his people will shut up and go about their business. Just curious, but with Bogans gone and if Carlos plays well......who do we rag on?
I love how we all that the Bulls needed another three point shooter to space the floor. Yeah, I guess that's right. But what the Bulls really needed was a shooting guard who is good at basketball. Rip scored most of his points by just running the court well, and being in the right place at the right time. That'll do. I'm on the outside looking in at all the Boozer support. I'm in partial panic mode. 4 years at around 15 million per will crush a franchise. I need him to put it together for a season.
If he can't play better than he did in the playoffs, there is always Amnesty. It really worked to the Bulls favor that they can do it each off-season of his contract.
My worry is that we can't really expect Reinsdorf to pay an amnesty -- that's serious, serious bread.
It's cheaper than keeping him and paying the lux tax if they want to keep Asik and Gibson. But hopefully he bounces back and plays good so it's moot.
It is equivalent to paying $1 for $1 tax, except the money goes to him while he plays for someone else.
Boozer'll be fine. He just needed one more passing target, and someone who helps him have some space. Like your comment about needing somebody who's good at basketball. True, true.
The Bulls won this game with Rose being 4th on the team in scoring. Last season they had a hard time winning games that Rose didn't score 25+ points. Everyone was involved, and the win was convincing to me.
When we have the ball, it's a much better situation than this since in today's NBA I can't think of very many teams that start 5 good defensive players. In any case, it was great to see Boozer play such a sound offensive game. As for Hamilton, he's just what the doctor ordered....smart and aggressive.
I was going to say something like this. How many teams do have 5 true offensive threats starting, who are also credible on defense? (Being generous to Carlos and Derrick, I suppose). Very nice team, much better than last years for various reasons (barring injuries), and I'm going to enjoy rooting for them.
