The Iraqis told us to get the fuck out. I have no idea if Germany or Japan or South Korea ever made such a formal statement after we helped establish their new government, and we just blew them off. If we did, that seems kind of shitty.

But after lingering in Iraq for 9 years, and after having their own people tell us they were better off without us, I just don't understand the argument for imposing our base in their country.

As has been pointed out countless times, a primary reason Osama Bin Laden declared war on the US was because we kept a large military base in his home country of Saudi Arabia. After all this bullshit, it just seems like a bad idea to do the exact same thing in Iraq against the will of their people.

I feel bad for the Iraqis. But jesus. There comes a time when you have to stop digging yourself into holes. Especially if the people you're digging the holes for don't want them and are getting kind of pissed off you are piling dirt on their rugs.

I'm not sure much of this is correct.

The Iraqis told us we could stay but our soldiers would have to be held to Iraqi law. Maybe we should have stayed and obeyed their laws - or obeyed their laws much sooner.

Germany and Japan were entire nations that were at war with us. We never were at war with the Iraqi people, just with Saddam. The differences are pretty huge. For one, Iraq was a decimated country for decades, while Germany and Japan had enjoyed economic superpower status right up until near the end. We rebuilt Japan and Germany without regard to being nice to their people - they weren't our allies. We never really got anything like unconditional surrender from Iraq like we did with the other two.

Who cares what Bin Laden wants or wanted? He wasn't a Saudi, he was living in Afghanistan fighting the Ruskies for a decade and funding his own country. I happen to want the troops to be stationed here, not overseas, but it's downright silly to allow someone like Bin Laden to dictate anything about our policies. How'd you feel if he declared war on us because we let women go to school?

    fun game!

how would you feel if unicorn farts made ice cream melt inside of a hollowed out oak stump?

how would you feel if the usa declared war based on lies in order to feed the war machine that they are beholden too?
