If Batum agrees to a new extension; that means his new contract will not be in effect until 2013 (since 2012-2013 is still rookie contract)? If that's true, then we still have plenty of room this off-season. Maybe this is why Blazers are extending their offer?
Is he getting an extension? Has he been offered an extension? He still must play out this final year of his rookie contract, regardless of signing any extension. So, to answer your question, the extension wouldn't go into effect until next season, and would go under that cap number.
Oh no, nothing to report but the Blazers extending an offer to negotiate an extention. I was just wondering if he signed something like 6-7 mil per; when that would count against our cap. I am banking on some good cap space to go after free-agents. i think maybe this is why Portland is extending the offer. It will put them in a better place for cap space.
Shit oh sorry, It should read "If Batum gets an extension". Mods, would you mind changing it for me. Sorry peoples.
You can change it too. Just go http://sportstwo.com/forums/123-Portland-Trail-Blazers Click on a space near this thread and a dialog box will open.
No, it'd kick in for the 2012-2013 season which means once the new year period rolls over and free agency opens up it goes on the cap space for next year. Batum sans extension becomes a restricted free agent this summer.
There are these things called capholds that will be 3x his current deal, so about 6.5 mil. That needs to be taken into account regardless of whether he's extended or not. http://www.shamsports.com/whatthedeuce.htm
But isn't that just for trading? Doesn't take up space on cap right?!?! EDIT: My mistake I should have read the article. My bad,
