That tells me he's not playing this season.

I just wonder how if it goes back to 8.9 million if he plays in ONE regular season game.

Wow! I wonder if we'll ever get the complete story as to what in the hell is going on with Oden. $1.5mill yet he might be coming back in mid January?

    That's chump change! :)

Maybe it's pro-rated for how many games they expect him to play. That's about 10-12 games.

Man these guys are underpaid. They should go on strike.

I don't think incentives can be that large of a percentage of a contract, I'm not sure the exact limit though.

I'm not a STH, but if I was, I'd be pissed about how secretive the team has been about his situation. WTF is the "setback?!"

Re: Oden's resturctured Salary $1.5 Mil?

Obviously never going to happen, but IMO he's shooting for a max contract. Here's my story/prediction:

G.O.'s going to take the most time possible to come back. I'm thinking after All-Star break (if there is one), that way he'll come back 100% or close to it... From there, the Blazers, and Oden's camp, expect he'll play like the beast he is, helping the Blazers get a top seed and deep into the playoff's. The Blazers will dominate with Greg holding down the paint and there will be talk of Championships, at which point G.O. will command a max contract or close to it and the $1.5 mil will be a distant memory.

Interesting information if true. I would definitely like to know what exactly is going on with him, but the Blazers are intent on playing Spy games apparently.

I think it's because he failed his physical and he could have had his contract voided altogether. He probably shouldn't be paid at all....like Jeff Green.

Re: Oden's resturctured Salary $1.5 Mil?

Perhaps he wanted to keep his bird rights and was willing to sacrifice some salary this year for a bigger payday down the road. You’d think a team like Golden State that spent $7 million on Kwame would gladly spend at least $2 million on Oden.

At that low of a salary, his cap hold will be fairly small in the offseason, so if we can sign a big name free agent, we could do that first and then still resign Greg. Maybe he wants to stay in Portland but help the team be very competitive?

Dream scenario is making a run at a stud like Deron Williams to pair with LaMarcus/Wes/Oden. Then grab either another free agent or keep some of our own free agents.

That doesn't explain why he left 7 million on the table. He has the same time to come back whether he took 1.5 or 8.9. Makes no sense.

It definitely leaves the impression that his knee is more jacked up than the Blazers are letting on.

If the team was willing to void the contract because he did not pass physical - it made sense for both the team and Oden.

Luke Babbitt is making more this season then Greg Oden. Even if Greg doesn't play a game I'm not sure who is worth more to the team this season.

Re: Oden's resturctured Salary $1.5 Mil?

There is a clause in the CBA that says an "injured" player cannot sign the QO. Greg did not have a "setback" but because he was unable to be ready on opening day the Blazers and Greg were unable to sign the QO like they had intended.

The term "setback" was used by the Blazers only and GO's camp did not agree with that term. I am not sure where the 1.5m salary comes from but it's really the best case scenario for the blazers. They will get to keep his bird rights and pay him next to nothing (relative to NBA salaries).
