Re: Oden's resturctured Salary $1.5 Mil? He could very well be a Max contract guy. Stoudamire got a max contract with his contract not being insured at all. All Oden has to do is sign a 2 year deal play really good for 2 seasons and then everyone with cap space will line up to sign him. A big man no matter the health concerns always gets overpaid and if he shows to be dominant for 1 or 2 years he will get a massive deal. I gotta think this restructured deal is based off of # of games he is expected to play with the upside that if he plays those games and has no setbacks after that he will get a big deal from the blazers. I'm still a big fan of Oden and have faith in him but i'm kind of worried that if he plays lets say 30 games including playoff games and shows no sign of being injured then we are going to give him a huge contract (something like 30m for 3 years)and have very little capspace to play with next year. If he shows us some health i'd rather sign him to a 2 to 3 year deal at 4 mill each year and then if he is healthy for all those years give him a nice deal if not were not on the books for much.
Canzano: *Greg looks uninterested on the bench at games. *(via Jason Quick) he's on his own little island. *Leaves at half-time.
Actually I've seen this, I will admit. In fact, the last game I saw him stand up and even before the half was over; he walked into the tunnel.
I call BS. I've seen him on Talking ball, if anything he's a wanna-be Dwight Jaynes, "I'm a realist because I take a negative view on everything." Nice Investigative work Canzano! Has to go to JQuick for any news since they won't let him in the locker room haha I really don't blame him, he's not a cheerleader. It would be tough to hang out around fans as well as in the locker room after a game in which you had nothing to do with it.
Dude I don't blame him either. I'm sure he's frustrated to all hell. I will be the first to welcome the big fella back in action. I was just saying I saw it first hand.
I don't know who Chris Haynes is, but it makes no difference. Sports writers, especially in Portland, have absolutely no insight to to anything sports related. Their opinion is the same as all of ours. A guess. On a different topic, but in my mind somewhat related, how hilarious is Canzano crying tonight about ESPN having more access for the Rose Bowl than the local writers. He may be right about paying for access, but lets face it John you are now low man on the totem pole. You need to make something up quickly to be relevent.
Re: Oden's resturctured Salary $1.5 Mil? Huh. interesting. Thanks for the clarification. That's strange now. If Oden's camp disagrees with the Blazers that there is a setback, then why did they agree to take the pay cut? Maybe they're just trying to save face with the denials? Quick needs to hit up Conley sr.
You could be on the right track here; as far as the Blazers thinking about a future sign and trade. Let's speculate that Greg has decided he doesn't really want to stay in Portland long term but he wants Portland to come out of this as well as possible. So he and his agent keep it quiet about him wanting to move on. Also, since it's in both his and Portland's best interest for other clubs to be interested in making S&T offers (after the season) they both want to play it safe and try to get maximum value. So they both want to be very cautious about not putting him out there too early and also having him play just enough games that he shows his potential again but hopefully doesn't get hurt. Since the Blazers have agreed to facilitate his wishes to get out of Portland, they suggest it's not fair they pay him much for this season. Pure speculation but it makes some sense to me.
It makes no sense to me. Oden failed his physical. The Q.O. wasn't an option to sign. There is no conspiracy here. It was explained very well early in this thread.
I guess we'll see. By the way, I don't believe that the scenario I laid out was a conspiracy; more like a "plan".
