My pastor just had this opinion piece published by Fox News. Considering all the "religious" threads recently floating around in these parts, thought I'd share it with you guys...FWIW. http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/01/03/what-bible-really-says-about-sex/?test=faces
And I think Mark is guilty of generalization on a worldwide scale when he judges 6 billion people he's never met and declares "most" of them think "Sex is a selfish act, a conquest of personal fulfillment." That's a mighty high horse he's riding.
Actually, I don't anymore. Obama can legally have me swept off to some undisclosed FEMA internment camp by interpreting my remark as "terroristic".
BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA!!! That was a dagger. I think Maris may be referring to something aside from the church you attend.
Religion has been at war with sex for only about 2000 years or so. This is like the Crusades, the Energy Bunny of all wars. Just keep trying, guys. Religion will win any day now.
Possible. Or maybe it's just that all of the humans who found sex boring and unpleasant died out ages ago, for some mysterious reason...
Hey ABM hate to burst your bubble but his 3rd point says nothing about one man and one woman. King James Version says: Genesis 2:24-25 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. Matthew 19:4 4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which amade them at the beginning made them male and female, We know that Abraham took Haggar to wife as instructed by the Lord. We know that Jacob (Israel) did not have 12 sons by one woman. We know that King David and King Soloman were given many wives by the Lord and it was not for that reason that they both fell. Joseph Smith said it is one man and one woman unless God directs otherwise. We see that in the Bible.
His piece did say this, as well: That said, back in the Old Testament times, some men were known to have more than one wife. I don't entirely understand it, but I'm certainly not questioning how God laid things out. My guess is, it was a means to populate the Earth. I mean, Adam & Eve were sister & brother, so to speak. The New Testament really changed the playing field. God's pretty clear on that. Again, I'm not going to question Him on the matter. I do understand that you're a Mormon, and Mormon beliefs vary from Christian beliefs on the matter of marriage, (do you believe in or embrace polygamy?), so I'll probably have to stop right here to say let's just agree to disagree.
He's an outstanding speaker and man of God. I've really enjoyed this church and have found myself getting connected more than anywhere else I've attended. I'm part of a local community group on Monday nights. We really have a blast. Very cool people to hang with,
We use the same bible yet we have so many differences in our beliefs. Why is that? It's the interpretations that vary, not the scripture. That is why having the Book of Mormon as a second witness is such a good thing. Modern revelation is needed in our day, a second reference point is crucial to solving confusion. Christ says one fold and one shepherd yet Christianity is fractured into hundreds of pieces. Now do I embrace or believe in Polygamy? Of course, it was God's command and I certainly believe in that. Whatever God commands is right.
