It's been said that Nate doesn't do well in the game adjustments department.

Now, this certainly isn't an end-all stat in that department, but I thought it was interesting how we are a pretty darned good 2nd half team. I would think Nate had at least "something" to do with that.

    Here's a rundown of 2nd half scoring..

    Blazers 59 Sixers 59 (W)

    Blazers 55 Kings 33 (W)

    Blazers 58 Nuggets 49 (W)

    Blazers 52 Clippers 49 (L)

    Blazers 52 Thunder 40 (W)

    Blazers 55 Lakers 40 (W)

Notice the Blazers scored over 50 in each game, while no opponent other than Philly reached 50.

I was thinking the same thing.

However, the other side of the coin is that this team really has stunk up a bunch of first halves. Why?

Either way, at least they are winning, and against some good teams too.

    Sure he does.

AND he's making them run more.

AND we're getting easier baskets, leading to more points. All while (gasp!) still being able to play defense.

If this would've happened 3 years ago, maybe we'd be out of the first round by now. But I'm glad it's happening now, and better late than never.

Awesome stat!!! I wonder what the opponents fg percentage is in the second half. I feel like that really improves.

Not too sure I agree with you.

For one thing, the personnel was different and with Roy as leader, not really a running team.

But for another thing, The Blazers spent time and effort either learning or drafting Defensive lanky players, and if they had been let loose to run without fundamentals of D in place first, I dont think the outcome would have been the same. Aldridge and Batum have learned how to D up, while the team has gone out and gotten other good D players in Crash, Wes, Camby and Thomas.

That's a good thought, but we had guys like Jack (who was decent guarding PGs), Webster, who was becoming a homeless man's Crash (even K*be-stopping!), Sergio at the Felton Role and Outlaw/Pre-Ariza Rudy at the Crawchuck Role, Przy to guard the paint...little bits of Oden...

If it was just that Nate was building everything around Roy, I could (almost) understand that. But he wasn't. If Roy retiring was what it took to get Nate to push the ball, then thank you again, #7.

    Yeah........no.
Jack and Webster were not good defenders.

    Very interesting stats.

This could also be from our players having better physical endurance which largerly shows itself in the second half. Our faster pace is getting the other team tired, it doesn't really slow them down in the first half but they are gassed in the 2nd half. Kind of like the Ducks football offense.

So I don't necessarly think this proves Nate is making good half time adjustments, but regardless the team is playing great and winning. Nate should get as much credit as anyone.

Can somebody give me the direction to find quarter stats? I mean see how teams fare per quarter? I can almost guarantee that it goes way down. I would like to prove this theory.

If you want to dig around you might find what you're looking for at basketball-reference.com

It's not exactly what you're looking for, but these are always fun to look at:

    http://popcornmachine.net/cgi-bin/gameflow.cgi?date=20120105&game=LALPOR
    http://www.hoopdata.com/boxscore.aspx?id=320105022

EDIT: I take it back, if you look at the very bottom of the popcornmachine.net gameflow page, it gives a quarter by quarter track of FG% (amongst other things).

How good will we have to be this year in order for Mediocre Man to give Nate the credit he deserves?

See, that's just not going to be good enough for some people around here. You need to say that Nate was doing it the right way all along and this season is just another extension of how great of a coach he's been,

This is probably sacrilege, but me thinks Nate had an effective man-crush on Roy, and Brandon just wouldn't do it this way. I'm of the belief that Brandon battled Dre' on this matter, as well.

Agreed. I think this team's offensive output this season has more to do with Roy not being here than anything else. Roy was a three time All Star and I can't really blame Nate to having a style of play that benefited Roy the most, but now with him gone Nate has made a huge adjustment to have a style of play that suits the roster he has now.

Nate had 11 years to adjust and did it this year. It's great that he finally did, but I don't think this decision was entirely his.

He finally has a healthy roster that can run and use it to win ball games.

So in 11 years he has never had a healthy roster? Must be the coach most cursed in the league
