    I don't think we could beat the Lakers without Thomas and Craig Smith; can you imagine Chris Johnson trying to guard Bynum?

    Thomas and Smith were great pickups. Guys who know and accept their role. So important in the NBA.

    I'd go a step further. Crawford/Thomas/Smith is the best free agent crop the Blazers have ever had. All three were brilliant acquisitions, but together they represent the difference between an average team and a very good, potentially great, team.

    I was thinking the Blazers might try to put Craig Smith on Bynum. He might be able to hold his ground.

    Kurt Thomas is money on his jumper from about 18 feet and in too. That is a very underrated skill for a reserve.

    And he seems to always be available when his guy doubles Felton/Crawford/LMA/Whoever. He's set and ready to shoot when he's the bailout guy.
