    Hire the guy already!

The Blazers have assembled a great team in the face of adversity. And if we can sign Kenyon Martin or one more piece to add depth in the paint - - we have a chance to have a really special season.

And if Chad Buchanan has anything to do with the above - the guy has earned the GM position.

It's tough because no one really knows who is doing what. Who traded for Wallace? Who signed Matthews? Who drafted Smith? Who signed Crawchuck, Thomas and C. Smith? Who traded Miller for Felton?

If you look at the big pieces, Aldridge, Wallace, neither of them were acquired by the Chad. Paul Allen doesn't make the best decisions, but one would think if the Chad really did build this team he would at least be considered for the job. Instead, our owner has come out several times and said the Chad was not a candidate.

Maybe its best to have this GM by committee thing, where you have multiple people with input and they all come to a consensis.

We don't have a fist pounding GM dictator saying "this is my draft" when we skip on CP3 because we have Telfair.

Reminds me of all of us pushing PA to promote KP to GM.

But we also don't know where we're supposed to give all of our love and adulation! "In Committee We Trust" just doesn't have the same ring to it...

I like the "Committee GM". Also, I think Allen has been getting advice from Trader Bob on the side.

Having no idea what role Chad has played in the recent signing and trades this team has undertaken, I think some of you guys are seriously overstating his effectiveness based on a hot start.

This team still needs somebody with a long term vision and a better track record in the draft than what we've seen from Chad as both acting GM and under KP as one of his head scouts (and frankly the committee approach hasn't really worked in other places, so I doubt if it will work here long term either-- ultimately, vertical organization charts are more nimble and accountable).

What is Chad's long term vision, and why does the team need somebody with a better one?

I'm not convinced that Chad's actually done anything to make this team better.....

Why would anyone wish that upon Chad?

I have a theory that CB isn't a canidate because he took his name off the list. How many GMs has Chad seen come and go? If he likes the organization and wants to stay as long as possible, let them hire some other person who's job is on the line each year.

I agree with this. This is working fine. Plus, keeping the leadership secret gives the Oregonian no target to hate or worship. Canzano is pulling his hair out, both of them. I love it. Paul Allen has switched to an underground Iraqi resistance style of running the war with the paper.

Do you believe that an Iraqi resistance style of running a war is more conductive to victory?

Pretty good point. Especially considering CB is green. If he were fired, then let go early on, by the Blazers, it might be a bit more difficult to land another GM (or such) gig, as opposed to someone who was more seasoned. Dunno.

It occurs to me that once coaches and gm's get past a certain experience level, they just climb and off the job carousel. *cough*FlipSaunders*cough*
