The (dodgy) California State Athletic Commission has suspended and fined Strikeforce women's featherweight title holder Christiane 'Cyborg' Santos following a failed drug test on December 16th, following her win over Hiroko Yamanaka at Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal. Santos tested positive for Stanozolol (aka Winstrol, aka Tenabol, aka Winstrol Depot), a synthetic anabolic steroid derived from testosterone. Other MMA fighters who have pissed hot for this in the past include Tim Sylvia, Chris Leben, and Phil Baroni. The most famous abuser is sprinter Ben Johnson, who was stripped of his 100m gold medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics after testing positive for the drug. The typical suspension length is 1-year (before appeals) and the fine is $2500 along with the winner's purse she took at the fight. It is likely Santos will be stripped of her title. Santos is widely considered the top female fighter in MMA.
Re: Christiane Cyborg Santos tests positive for steroids, title defense ruled no-cont So much for Santos vs. Rousey. No wonder Strikeforce booked Rousey/Tate already.
Re: Christiane Cyborg Santos tests positive for steroids, title defense ruled no-cont I can't say this surprises me at all...look at her.
Re: Christiane Cyborg Santos tests positive for steroids, stripped of title [update] As expected Strikeforce has stripped her of her title.
The old "didn't know my supplement had banned ingredients" excuse. Note how she says she doesn't condone PED use but doesn't deny using them.
Winstrol, what Santos was caught using, is a favourite of female athletes who dope and are in weight-restricted sports. It helps to build lean muscle mass without the masculine side-effects and it doesn't make one retain water. (all according to Dr. Benjamin, MMAJunkie.com)
