    Has anyone done that?

I'm mostly talking about buying on on ebay (or whatever) and just putting your s chip (or whatever the fuck it's called) into your new phone.

Is that doable? Also, is it safe to assume the company that has your contract wouldn't know you did it, so you wouldn't get dinged with any charges?

Its not like I have a huge package (that's what she said!) and have to worry about if it has texting or web browser shit. Just a simple phone that will assume the current contract the phone the person has, is currently on.

it all depends really. some phones require you to have a dataplan contract on it. what carrier? some of them are carier locked.....buy an unlocked phone. some might be reported stolen too...there's a number or something that should be "free".

I'm not interested in deals, I'm just wondering if it will have any impact on the contract currently in place. I can't imagine how it will, and the "upgrade fee" shouldn't occur. How the fuck are they to know the phone isn't the same?

AT&T, and it's mostly for phone calls. No texting, no web shit.

not sure yet. I wanted to go get one from a store, but i don't like the BS you go through to get them. I'll look online since it appears I can do what I wanted to do with little worry for hidden fees, etc. I like the #'s, etc, to be big enough I can read. My first phone the #'s were too small, and I couldn't always see what #'s I had typed/pushed.

    I currently have a samsung, it's about 5 years old (a707)
    thanks for the help.

I bought my iPhone online. It came, I opened the box, I plugged it into the USB of my laptop after installing iTunes, it turned itself on and connected to Verizon and I was able to use it within a few minutes.
