Batum and Felton for Calderon It maybe a bad trade to some people, but Calderon is a great facilitator that knows how to hit the outside J. What are your thoughts?
F No. Are you kidding me? Calderon is Nash lite with even worse defense. If we're going for it we might as well go after Nash.
Nash-light with about 6 more years left in the tank. I don't think our defense is the problem. It's taking care of the ball and punishing teams that double on Aldridge. With a starting line-up of: Calderon, Matthews, Wallace, Aldridge and Camby is solid. And waiting on Camby: Calderon, Matthews, Wallace, Smith, Aldridge is still really good.
felton for calderon straight up would blow, and the raps would jump on it faster than you can say "poopchute!"
Calderon's numbers are deceiving. He's a good shooter, that's true, but his assist totals are misleading. He dribbles the air out of the ball for most of the shot clock and then makes one pass to a shooter who has no choice but to put one up. It inflates his assists. Likewise, the reason he has so few turnovers is he is utterly conservative with the basketball. He doesn't push in transition or take chances in the half-court outside of an alley-oop pass every now and again. His defense has been better this year than the last few, probably closer to his early career form, but is still poor.
no speeds. caledron is a great facilitator. i agree he doesnt take chances but that might be more a function of coach casey offence than anything. bigs like amir and bargnani play dramatically better with him than any other raptor pg. and lest we forget that bosh enjoyed his best seasons as pro with caledron running the point. i think LMA would benefit by having caledron on the team. also, i think its important to note that caledron is having one of his best seasons as a pro under coach caseys defence first philosophy.
If the Raptors came to us with that offer I'd say "we're in a bad way, but we're not that desperate yet." I like Calderon, and he is a better PG than anyone we've got, but he's a terrible defender and he's 30. I'd actually consider Felton and filler for Calderon (just because Felton, for all that he's a great guy, is driving me insane) but I regard Batum as a bit more than filler (at least, for now). The knock on Calderon, who has perennially been at or near the top for PGs in A/TO, is that he's over-cautious. He won't take chances and isn't suited to the uptempo game we're supposed to be playing. He would've been good alongside Brandon, but that ship has sailed.
without doubt the absolute worst trade proposal you have ever made, take two aspirin, take a nap, and start over again
over cautious? if not playing school yard ball is over cautious, i would take that over cautious pg anytime. he's not an equal opportunity distributor of the ball, meaning he will feed LMA the ball but batum aint getting any love. thats why the raps offence has been efficient historically with caledron here. he recognizes the scorers and thats why our stars have always endorsed him. the defensive liability issues are legit. however, he tries unlike nash or jimmer and as a consequence he's only exposed when he faces uber quick pgs like d.rose.
