yeah im sure colangelo is searching the globe for next big stiff. ive given up on being a legit contender with colangelo at the helm. this year has demonstrated to me that the only person on the roster that can substantively contribute to a winning team is bargnani. we need a legit superstar, not a star but a legit superstar who can single win games for u like james in cleveland without any help. unfortunately this draft doesnt have any, they have a lot good players but no mvp caliber dudes.
How many of those are there in the league? James, Wade, Dwight (questionable), Kobe, Durant and Rose. You could count them on one hand and two of them play on the same team. I agree we need a superstar, but that's the case with most teams. The draft is a crap shoot, no one knew Rose would be this good or Durant would be better than. Even Lebron was a questioned (I myself believed Melo would be better). I like that BC has committed to rebuilding properly and didn't try to do something stupid. Look at Detroit, they have huge contracts and little to no young talent. With a roster this young, there's bound to be a a learning curve. Its much better to be this bad than it is to continually be 9th or 10th (Bosh era). At least we have a chance at an impact player. I understand this is a hard season to watch but the Thunder suffered a few awful seasons before they became what they are now (35, 31, 20, 23 wins in four consecutive seasons). During that time they collected young players, shed bad contracts and built for the future. Sure they lucked out in the draft but every good franchise needs a little luck. We're do for some luck (right?)
Ed Stafanski gives me hope. BC...no so much. Lets hope we take a player out of college this year. Harrison Barnes LEHGOOO!
i recognize that there are only a small number of superstars, arguably less than ten and miami has two of them. however, my point was that for us to contend in the near future we need one because this roster sucks. moreover, i dont have any confidence in colangelo to build.
stefanski is a well connected dude and thats all he has going for him. i dont know why we couldnt have hired someone young and promising like rick cho
We definitely need a franchise player, but my point is, how do we get one? We all know how players feel about coming to Toronto, so free agency is not likely. Our current pieces are obviously crap, so trades are out of the question. Our best chance is through the draft. I know ppl are saying this draft is looking lackluster but ppl say that with every draft. There will at least a few all-star caliber players in the draft and we need talent in the worst way.
