Smith was traded last week from the Hornets to the Bulls, but the deal is pending physicals. A source says the Nuggets are going to trade guard Howard Eisley and two future second-round picks in exchange for Smith. The Nuggets' long search for a shooting guard might be over. A source said Sunday the Nuggets are close to acquiring J.R. Smith, an up-and-coming guard who played last season for the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets. In a deal that was announced Friday, Smith was traded with forward P.J. Brown from the Hornets to the Chicago Bulls for forward Tyson Chandler. The trade is expected to become official after Brown and Smith take physicals Wednesday. The source said the Bulls then plan to trade Smith to the Nuggets for guard Howard Eisley, who has a nonguaranteed contract, and two future second-round picks. The Bulls, who need to clear salary cap room to sign free-agent forward Adrian Griffin, then would waive Eisley. The 6-foot-6 Smith, 20, averaged 7.7 points last season after averaging 10.3 as a rookie in 2004-05. He entered the NBA directly from St. Benedict's Prep, a high school in Newark, N.J.</div> For more, go to http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/nba/...4849650,00.htmlI knew he was on his way out. He just wouldnt fit in with Chicago, the guard situation is increasing (after the signing of Griffin) and I thought he'd be in a package to get a good big man. Denver should definitely do this however, they're basically giving nothing for a guy who has so much potential. I dont know if he's the shooter they're looking for, though.
i don't think they care about that. Like the article said, they just need some cap room to sign Grif. It's not like JR would've played. They could use that pick in a future deal to get a vet.
Yeah, I kind of expected this sort of thing. If he didnt get along with Byron Scott, he certainly won't get along with Scott Skiles. Also, the Bulls just got Adrian Griffin, so they dont really need JR anymore. I could see a deal on the works..Who would Denver send?
Chicago at least needs to get a big man, imo. They have no interior presence who can score. Maybe someone like Elson, as SunnyD mentioned.
This was known a couple days ago, I posted on the Nugs board that they would be getting JR Smith. I don't know what to make of it, it fills their need at sg but he and Melo will be chunking up a lot of shots. And not good ones say to speak.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Chicago at least needs to get a big man, imo. They have no interior presence who can score. Yeah, but Melo needs another scorer on the team who can score the ball when needed. JR Smith is capable of scoring and shooting the ball. Those are the 2 things that the Nuggs need the most..
He's not very efficient at it though. That's the problem I see, also he's known to have a poor work ethic, something Karl did not tolerate with Kmart. We'll see what happens.
