1 Portland 25.5 2 Cleveland 24.9 3 Chicago 24.7 4 Golden State 24.3 5 Utah 24.2 It would be nice to see what this team could do with some closers, as well as a coach who could make in-game offensive adjustments. http://www.teamrankings.com/nba/stat/4th-quarter-points-per-game
Portland at #3 in 2nd-half margin and #2 in 4th quarter margin. http://www.teamrankings.com/nba/stat/4th-quarter-points-per-game http://www.teamrankings.com/nba/stat/average-2nd-half-margin
Seems more like bad luck than anything, at least based on the stats. One would expect that tendency to correct if Portland keeps up their 4th quarter play.
Wow, that is shocking. Thought our 4th quarter execution sucked. Imagine if they could actually convert on a fast break! We'd be 8-1 in games decided by 5 or less.
Unfortunately, I think some of that is due to the fact that we have been down by ~20 going into the 4th quarter quite a few times. It seems to me that it would be easier to score a lot of 4th quarter points when the other team's scrubs are in. I'm curious what that stat looks like if you only use the games that were "close" going into the 4th.
Could be, but then again, Portland is sixth in the NBA in scoring margin after three quarters, and 4th in the NBA (first in the West) in total scoring margin. I think scoring margin is a decent indicator of how teams adjust, and Portland is at the top, or near the top, in almost every second half statistic.
