february 6, 2002 Bulls 97 Lakers 89 This was win number 11 in game 47. Starting lineup for Bulls: Kevin Ollie Ron Artest Eddie Robinson Tyson Chandler Brad Miller Lakers starting 5: Hunter, Bryant, Fox, Medvedenko and Walker This was really nice to see the Bulls win against the Lakers this day. Even with O'neal out with a sore feet. A win is a win, isn't it? Bulls ended the season 21-61. The Bulls already have won the january game at Los Angeles. So they got the sweep this season after 5 straigth losses against the Lakers.
Other Bulls playing that night back in 2002: Trenton Hassel AJ Guyton Marcus Fizer Fred Hoiberg Eddy Curry Out: Dalibor Bagaric and Charles Oakley
Yes. Did the other players also had nicknames? I can't recall any... Oakley had one for sure...but not from the early 2000s.
Isn't this right before the Bulls traded Artest and Miller for Rose, J. and a short pg whose name escapes me. You could see the potential of Artest in the way he dominated those games.
The Lakers certainly didn't have any depth that year, their other two teams were stronger in the 3-peat.
Tyson went on to be a decent player and really developed some game getting fed by Chris Paul but overall, as an athletic, hustling big man, he's had only one double double season. Good, starter quality but not great. Artest had talent but was under-medicated and out of control. He made Rodman look like David Robinson in terms of stability at the time. Glad he got some issues somewhat under control. Miller was steady and productive. The definitive white big man with a jumper. E-Rob had nice sweaters. Kevin Ollie? Footnote. Hassel and Guyton? same. Fizer could have been a Barkley. I could have been famed litigator Gerry Spence. Neither came true. Hoiberg was a guy you couldn't help root for -- and he had a nice J from downtown -- but there was always sort of a "Rudy" factor there. Curry was a butter eater. And J-Craw went on to do nice things but at the time he was overwhelmed by the NBA more times than he dominated. He matured into a nice player.
Wow...this one was good from you. Only 12 days later... Acquired Jalen Rose, Travis Best, Norm Richardson and a conditional second-round draft pick from Indiana for Ron Artest, Ron Mercer, Brad Miller and Kevin Ollie. Nevertheless it was very good to see this sweep. Was good to see every win you could get. Also right. Jamal Crawford (torn ACL, left knee) (october 2001) I always liked him as a Bull. He want to retire after this season.
The earlier meeting between the Bulls and LA in January 2002 was the game where Shaq threw a punch and missed Miller, if I remember correctly. I used to wonder what would have happened if the Bulls didn't make the trade with Indiana. Brad Miller was entering the prime of his career and could have formed a nice front line with Curry and Chandler. Those were the days when Artest was beasting it on offense too. (Although, Tom is on the money in that Artest was out of control.) Artest was a better player than Rose at that juncture, arguably on both sides of the ball. The trade with Indiana was a strange cut-your-losses type deal. One of many if you look at the end of Krause's tenure, I suppose.
You remember correctly. What would have happened...is always a nice little game. Perhaps the Bulls were a better team with a front line of Miller, Curry & Chandler. But didn't this mean that the Bulls could have no chance for drafting Rose? What would have happened...is so difficult. I think that this was the last big deal from Krause. Didn't start Paxson as GM about one year later?
