Davis was a marginal All Star. Nash is a two time MVP who is currently leading the league in assists. Big difference.
Lol yeah you tell em Kingspeed! People aren't realizing that Nash is still giving you a 24 per. Those are allstar stats! Also dale Davis wasn't a leader. He was a role player. Nash is a proven leader and MVP. They are much different.
I probably worded my post poorly. I didn't mean that he had all of those guys on his team at the same time, but there have been multiple iterations of the Suns with good players that were never able to get over the hump and a lot of those teams were deep with talent.
So, you're saying if we trade for Nash, Crawford and McMillan will leave town? Sweet! Addition by addition and subtraction!
If a trade doesn't improve the team and/or the team's future, then why do it? If we have to give up Batum, and all we're left with are LaMarcus, 'Steve Nash and the Geriatric Band', and our existing refuse, what's the point? Now, Nash plus Aldridge plus Nico, plus our scraps, I'd be all over that. But seriously, without including Nico, I doubt we have what they want for the face of their franchise.
Nash isn't going to be in the league in 3 years. He couldn't even MAKE the finals with a healthy Amare and a bunch of other good pieces. What makes you think we can win it all with Nash and an even less talented supporting cast?
Seriously. This team is a lot closer to where PHX is now than any uprising contender. We have no use for Nash, and we'd be just wasting his skills for a weak first round run at the playoffs. We need a complete franchise overhaul as much as PHX does.
Al Jefferson for Kevin Garnett.... except we don't have Ray Allen and Paul Pierce when they were still good. Best point guard in the league? No. Derrick Rose is the best point guard in the league, followed by Deron Williams, and Chris Paul. Nash makes us a playoff team, but I highly doubt we even get to the WCF with him. If that guy couldn't get to the finals with Joe Johnson, Shawn Marion (in his prime) and Amare, what makes you think he's going to do it with Wes Mathews, Gerald Wallace, and Aldridge? Trading Batum for Nash would be one of those "looking back" moments where Blazer fans would groan and curse the name of Chad Buchanan.
If you put a defensive supporting cast you would. That Phoenix team didn't play a lick of d. Aldridge, Wallace and camby is a much better defensive unit than that team. Also teams in the west were much stronger than the ones now. And Phoenix had to go through San Antonio during those years, the best defensive team in the league. This year only lakers are a really good defensive team and they aren't going anywhere.
Those teams were also extremely talented offensively, with a system that highlighted Nash's strengths. Portland....isn't. It's going to be Nash, Aldridge and a bunch of stragglers. Pair that with McMillans plodding offense, and I think it's very likely you don't get MVP level Nash. You can't just look at what Nash did well in Phoenix and expect it to happen here. There's a lot of variables and I don't think it's worth the risk to trade our second best player who's going to be 24, for a 3 year window that won't likely yield any results. Also, I think this years OKC (let alone future years) team is close to the SA teams of years past.
If you could just magically add Nash to this team, and McMillan let Nash run the offense his way, maybe you have something intriguing. Not a true title contender, but maybe a team could win a round or two of the playoffs with some breaks. But trading for Nash? Losing some talent to get Nash would not yield a team capable of much more than making the playoffs and being quickly ejected. Right now, the Blazers have one great player and one good player in Aldridge and Batum. Adding another great player but losing the one good player would make the team better short-term, but not by enough to be worth the long-term downgrade of no longer having Batum.
Damn OKC! They need to improve their defense by a lot to be compared to the SA teams with Duncan in his prime. They have a great offensive 1-2 punch with some talented (Harden sixth man of the year) players to pick up on any given night but i'm just not getting the hype of that team. A good Big wrecks havoc with them and Westbrook can and will freeze Durant out a lot. If Westbrook and Durant clicked on a more solid basis then that team would really be very scary and they wouldn't even have to up there D. I don't know why they were playing better D last year then this year but its a problem for them that will come up in the playoffs. The OKC team just doesn't scare me and make me think they will be coming out of the west.

Or you know, we could keep batum and overpay him at years end. If im portland I trade for nash if all it takes is felton and batum. ESPECIALLY if I knew batum wants a hell of a lot more money than im willing to give him. God knows someone would be dumb enough to cave into his demands this offseason.
They would've made the Finals in 2005 if Joe Johnson didn't get hurt. And we have more talent than that team. Crash is better than Q-Rich. Aldridge is better than Amare.
Phoenix would want Oden if there medical staff thinks they could fix him, but they wouldn't want him as anything but a throw in.
