Sir, I must strongly disagree with your OP. The fact it's based on a piece of Jason Quick melodrama says all you need to know.

LaMarcus works his ass off every off season to improve his game like no other Blazer since Blankey. Brandon sure as hell didn't -- he had to try to save his knees, for one thing, but he probably didn't give shit for another.

The Brandon v. Deron comparison is not a good one either. Brandon dominated the ball and relegated LaMarcus to an outside shooting afterthought. Deron would elevate LaMarcus' effectiveness even further.

    Christ.

Christ lacked the demeanor necessary to be The Guy on an NBA championship team. He was simply too nice, if reports from the time are true.

Can you imagine him trying to consistently rebound? Bad idea, and turning water into wine isn't exactly the best training regimen, and sets a very poor example, for his teammates.

so you're saying he's soft? A "turn the other cheek" kind of guy?

The Blazers already excel in that.

If you want him to grab more rebounds, talk to the coach. You can't grab ten plus boards when you're asked on a fairly consistent and regular basis to take your 6'11 self out to the perimeter to guard a 6'1 guard (which he actually does rather effectively) because your coach is in love with a switching defense.

As for your apparent conclusion that Aldridge would have rather left the team than be its third option, I would advise you read the article again. He never says he would have wanted to leave, only that he imagines he would have had to because Portland wouldn't be able to pay him.

In fact LaMarcus has stated on several occasions that he loves Portland, it is his second home now, and the only way he'll ever leave if is they trade him or tell him they don't want him anymore.

On the one hand, you says he's too nice, but on the other hand, you say he only cares about himself.

On the one hand, you say he only cares about numbers, but on the other hand, he doesn't care enough about them to consistently rebound.

On the one hand, you say the Blazers will be mediocre for 10 years with LMA as The Man. On the other hand, you offer no viable options to get The Man, other than some vague reference to a trade of LMA for some mystery The Man.

You're going to have to elevate your game with this community. Your bizarre and wildly flucuating criticisms of LMA may fly with the Fart and Giggle crowd on Olive (or what's left of it), but you're going to get picked apart by the rapier-witted raptors on this board if your first foray into posting here is a precedent for you.

That settles it. The Blazers don't need Jesus of Nazareth on their team. Maybe somebody with some balls, like say, Judas, or even Pontius Pilate.

Besides, as we all know, we would crucify the poor guy every time he lost us a game. He would be our new Felton!

Sometimes I read these threads and laugh. Kinda sums up a day in the life of many Blazer fans. We blow a team out and we are contenders. We lose a close game and our season is over. We lose against a sub 500 team and we need to blow shit up. Now we over react on quotes from our best player on the roster.

    We are a rare breed!

You're making all kinds of inferences and assumptions based on things he didn't actually say. You're above quote is absolute bullshit. LaMarcus put in the work to make the big leap from pick-n-pop only to low post beast with all the off season work he put in with Bill Bayno during the summer of 2010. Newsflash, at that time he was still considered the 3rd option behind Roy and Oden. So, you're conclusion is flawed. No surprise there.

He also never said he'd quit, or even wanted to leave. You just made that up in a failed attempt to bolster your faulty conclusions. He only doubted the team's ability to resign him if they would have given both Roy and Oden max contracts. That's a function of the CBA, not Aldridge's desire to play for Portland.

Who gives a shit when or why he developed and transformed his game? The point is, he has. Not all players do. About half the guys picked in the top 10 in any draft end up never taking that next step from solid role player to all-star. Rather than put down Aldridge for how he got there (hard work during the off season), why not give him credit and be glad he did.

As for trading him, you specifically said he is best as a 3rd option not a number 1 or 2 guy. OK genius, exactly who is going to trade us their number 1 or 2 guy for our number 3 guy? Yet another flaw in your "logic".

Given how much he has improved the last two seasons, I suspect Aldridge still hasn't reach his peak. One thing not often noted is how much he's improved his defense this season. He now has a dominant low post offensive and has also become a force on the defensive end. His passing is also greatly improved. So, in less than two years, he's significantly improved his low post game, his defense and his passing. He still needs to improve his rebounding, but given the way he's improved the other facets of his game, that may well be the next area where he steps up.

Good thread, Definition. Aldridge isn't tough enough to earn the label "best player on a team." He works, but deep inside, he isn't tough. He deceives himself that he is because he thinks he has removed his defects. From Quick's article:

He's the best player on the team, your ridiculous post in my signature aside.

That one is an embarrassment. You've already learned this isn't ESPN/Olive, though. Why, sometimes you get so ANGRY! :MARIS61:

Defitition8 is making a very Mixum like post.

That said, it was an interesting and rather sad article. I also had visions when they all started in together of a long window of opportunity for a championship. Probably multiple rings. Amazing how injuries can decimate a team.

Love is a 25ppg and doesnt have an elite PG. Aldridge has more of an offensive arsenal than Love, too. Aldridge needs to work on getting to the line a little bit more and he'd be a 25ppg scorer.
